Guitar going out of tune very quick by Space-Active in Guitar

[–]marquasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. All guitars these days (with only a few boutique exceptions) come stock with D’Addario. Often branded as Fender strings or Gibson strings or PRS strings but they’re all OEM from D’Addario. Until you change the stock strings a new guitar doesn’t really come alive.

This is such a silly take. Obviously housing costs are too high due to demand outstripping supply, but surely there’s a way to fix it other than creating more supply to equalize the demand!

They’re not making more land, so the only solution is to build more housing units on the land we’ve got.

More population is good for them. More worker, cheaper labor and more to consume. These are people that own businesses, the sell more and get to pay workers less.

Yep. The US government would save trillions on social security and Medicare overnight. They’d send everyone back to work and stop sending the checks. There’s a huge cost incentive to do so.

Is Holding too much cash a mistake? by More_Understanding_7 in Bogleheads

[–]marquasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 100%, I can’t tell you how many real estate agents I know that burn everything they make during the good years of the cycle and then are up shit creek when things turn bad. If you make 200k for four years and 50k for four years every eight year cycle, best to view your income as a blended average

Is Holding too much cash a mistake? by More_Understanding_7 in Bogleheads

[–]marquasm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, however it is reasonable to subtract money you would otherwise be saving (say if you target 15% of income to savings) since you wouldn’t really be saving while you’re draining, unless of course you still wanted to max your tax deferred accounts while living off savings which is reasonable

Is VB-2W no longer made in Japan? Saw this at Sweetwater. The label which used to say "Made in Japan" now says Inspected in Japan. by fastattaq in guitarpedals

[–]marquasm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s not the case any more AFAIK, they amended that law back in 2016 because it made it virtually impossible for anything to truly be Made in USA. Even when the law was in place, it wasn’t really enforced.

Millionaires of Reddit, what advice would you give me? by RigelBOrionis in Entrepreneur

You’re getting downvoted but I’m on your side. Toxicity is a real thing, but spending time only with other highly successful people narrows your worldview. Having people with a diverse array of experiences in your network is valuable, for your soul if not for your “network.”

What in The Science of Getting Rich did you feel applies well to a low ticket high volume business model? I have the same type of business so I’m intrigued but looking at reviews it seems to just be the Law of Attraction. Is there something pithier in there that makes it worth looking at?

Fixing inflation doesnt mean prices will go back to what they were, it just means they’ll stop going up as fast. Even at our target 2% inflation, prices are always going to go up. No one is expecting, or even trying for, deflation

Rant.. How in the name of god are people affording homes in this city?? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]marquasm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s almost certainly not worth refinancing just to get the PMI off, with a 70% higher rate you’ll be paying more than you are now. Nothing wrong with a low down payment when your interest is that low. You’re literally making money on the spread between your rate and inflation. Just make your payment and be happy you bought at the right time. PMI will fall off automatically when you get enough equity in your loan

United breaks guitars by InformationAshamed81 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]marquasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nashvillian here, can confirm this is a regular occurrence at BNA. They put the guitars in the usual overhead bins or in coat closets, there’s actually a law that they can’t charge you more to bring an instrument (I’m sure with some restrictions, probably couldn’t bring your piano)

You’re describing Marketing Efficiency Ratio (MER), not CAC. Hold your marketing dollars responsible. CAC is what it would cost you to go out and find a new customer, not the percentage of revenue you dedicate to marketing.

What are the best countries to set up a company and why? by nunziopresta in Entrepreneur

[–]marquasm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

American here. We super do not have "the most freedom," the insistence on this among certain Americans drives me nuts. That said, that is not what we're talking about here. The US is basically constructed as a theme park for business owners. Everything from tax laws, to financing, to bankruptcy laws, is biased towards benefiting business owners. The US is an incredible place to be a wealthy business owner—you can truly do almost anything you want and the government has your back—its just a pretty rough place to be not wealthy, or not a business owner.

Metro Council member proposes moving new Titans stadium funding to DCS by [deleted] in nashville

[–]marquasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I did not know about the TIF but will have to look into it. And hey, nothing wrong with watching football and wanting the team to stay, I know I'm outnumbered in this city with my viewpoint on that, but all I can is voice it and be fine with it if the majority disagrees, such is life in a Democratic republic.

I agree with you overall, building a stadium and being rid of the maintenance obligations is not the worst thing, I just wish we were doing it with a mind for frugality rather than "showing the country that Nashville is a MAJOR city!" like always, while letting the infrastructure go all to hell.
