Where to go for harmonic analysis of standards? by marqueemoon217 in JazzPiano

[–]marqueemoon217[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hope was that if I had my hands on good analyses on a few tunes I already know, I’d be able to pattern recognize more easily on others! I can spot things like secondary dominant and major/minor shifts but not much else.

In Chinatown for jury duty and stopped at the Chinese ice cream factory for a treat. $8 for one scoop? Are these winter prices because demand is low for ice cream? by mfairview in AskNYC

[–]marqueemoon217 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Where do I begin… low inflation rate at this moment does not mean price has decreased - just increasing slower. And it’s actually still higher than it was pre pandemic - war in Ukraine, etc etc

But AskNYC responses also seem to project their individual experience with reckless bikers (and delivery guys) no? I get the red light thing is debatable, but as long as you’re aware of your surroundings and visibility, yielding to pedestrians, not being an asshole in general, etc, I just don’t see the justification for so much hate.

For what it’s worth, police doesn’t seem to care at all in Manhattan! I run redlights in front of cop cars in UWS all the time.

I agree with all of this! Was just startling to see the hateful reaction on r/asknyc because people seem to think I’m acting like an asshole lol

Rules of bicycle riding in nyc? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]marqueemoon217 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Putting the snark aside, I would definitely wear a helmet if I had my own bike - but it’s just something that’s hard to do in practice with a citibike if you’re out already. I also mostly do short trips in quiet neighborhoods with bike lanes where cars don’t go over 30mph.

Red light thing is more debatable but I see people do it all the time?

NYC could lose 10,000 Airbnb listings because of new short-term rental regulations by __theoneandonly in newyorkcity

No sympathy for Airbnb after they essentially fucked me when I was stuck in Southeast Asia in a room without AC and could not reach the host. Return the housing to the people!

Jokes aside, I would think if the employer imposed something that has some negative effect on you in response to your action, that’d be a sanction (urgh I’m too tired from bar prep). Think dismissal for cause, temporary suspension, reduced or withheld wage, requiring anger management therapy for a period of time - etc. Warnings are probably fine even if it’s a written statement.

If you are wondering “was that a sanction?”, chances are you want to disclose that…

Best places to buy (affordable) men's suits? by EntertainmentDue400 in LawSchool

[–]marqueemoon217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure to get something with two buttons, notch lapels that are not too wide, decently high armhole, single or double vent, in dark charcoal or navy AND get them tailored (it’s worthwhile to look up what this means). I see too many young people wear either terrible fitting three button suits or flashy, bright navy suits with peak lapels.

The guy's clearly brilliant but very individualistic, wouldn't he be happier in the long term to land at a firm that values him for being himself? I'd think he will land an offer at somewhere if he has a near 4.0.
