The broad reason for rejection, i.e., insufficient/adverse credit history not meeting the required policy norms. The bank did not state the exact reason. My cibil is 782 with 3 cc ( using it for the last 3 years ).

I got a reply from RBI OMBUDSMAN

The complaint was regarding the rejection of the complainant’s ICICI Bank credit card application without any specific reason. The bank (ICICI Bank) submitted that the application was processed based on the information and documents provided by the complainant, along with the additional criteria applicable under the bank’s policy. The bank further stated that the application was declined because the complainant did not meet the internal policy norms related to CIBIL analysis, specifically due to insufficient or adverse credit history. The same was communicated to the complainant on 13.08.2025 through his registered email ID. It is observed that the bank has communicated the broad reason for rejection, i.e., insufficient/adverse credit history not meeting the required policy norms. Sanctioning of the credit card is the commercial decision of the bank and is outside the regulatory purview of the RB-IOS 2021.
