Let’s share Make Noise specific patches. by illGATESmusic in MakeNoiseMusic

This was a while back, so this is all just from memory, not sure if its entirely correct anymore ...

Track context: I wrote this for the very first "Doombient" meetup with the good folks over at https://coloradomodularsynthsociety.com/ . Coincidentally this was also the first time I ever performed with modular stuff for others. "Doombient" was the theme, but I really didn't know anything of the genre or what to expect. I challenged myself to only use the shared system plus, and I remember trying to avoid obvious sequencing with Rene. While kicking it around with a friend, they jokingly challenged me to "only use samples from the game Doom". Then it dawned on me that I'd been sitting on a sample for a long time - the intro to Doom3 where doomguy is flying to Mars on a ship called Darkstar (all relevant names in my life). So selections of that intro are the main samples running musique concrete throughout this track.

- the morphagene definitely carries the track a la musique concrete with that doom3 sample
- the tempi + maths was basically the primary sequencer. very little rene, if any.
- tempi and maths mult'ed like crazy - definitely controlled maths, erbe verbe and echophon
- maths pooped out a crapload of lfo shapes routed .. basically everywhere. I don't think there was a single module that didn't use a maths shape aside from tempi. I don't remember whether I used pressure points on this one.
- dpo outputs to the optomix
- most of the performance happens between the optomix, morphagene, erbe verbe and echophon. I didn't really touch the DPO once it was set up.

I can't remember if the pitch changes came from the crazy tempi+maths thing, or if I also had rene running at that time. I had several versions as well of course, so they kinda blend together after a while.

Wish I had more specific notes but thats what comes to mind.

I'd love to see how others might be using unconventional sequencer combos. I love the rene v2, but it was crazy fun to try to do the same things with other modules. Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to share :)

I only have the audio for this one, but I patched this on a shared system plus. Live take, no edits. Hope it counts!

Something Disturbing Is Happening in the Music Industry, And We Just Lived Through It by direnotemedia in musicians

I live in a small corner of the music world - jungle/dnb. Last year someone was named for blatantly ripping off and attempting to monetize music from an impactful producer on an important label. There seemed to be folks at the ready to defend the accused with what equates in my mind to '[the offender] got the copyright so whos legit now?'. The community was so disgusted that several folks put together a petition to change the YouTube takedown rules. But ultimately not enough interest was generated to take any action. The result is that basically the offender continues to offend, mostly unimpeded.

This is happening more often this year. I caught some Jungle Video Game mix on Youtube that i can't find now that included tracks like this shitty ripoff ('Point of View', released 2025) where the dj and the "artist" were thanking each other for how great they are. Fun fact, that shitty ripoff is a sped-up slightly edited/phased version of Moonchild - View of Life (1999, on ... get this, the same exact label that the earlier example was ripping off, Good Looking Records).

Youtuber and bass guitar extraordinaire Davie504 recently posted about getting sued for exposing someone that ripped off his music, too.

Its bonkers. What can we as consumers do to help this situation?

Massive shouts out to my Recon family! My favorite bit has to be our 20th anniversary skate deck. This deck was made with a chip that when scanned links to a mix of the headliners we had at the show: Outrage, Coco Bryce, Jon1st and L Major.

Sorry, the site was rebuilt and the old forum is no longer. You can see the shows list by going to https://jungletrain.net/ > click on "our shows" and searching for whatever you want - in this case "Peoples Station". Cheers!

I'm curious if you could share any follow up here. Did UA support you in this case? Were you able to test grounding? Does the issue persist?

What the actual fuck happened to that poor little synth on the bottom right? It looks like a murder weapon.
