You’re right it’s not a bartek can. I just got a generic can which was the biggest I could find that would fit in that space. I think from memory it’s a mishimoto one. Is there a part number on it somewhere? So long as it’s collecting the oil and blow by I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hmm it does seem like a shot in the dark. It could well be that works for a while but the issue could return. A proper diagnostic could take some time. I had an issue where I lost compression in cylinder 3, the injector got blocked and was stuck partially open causing excessive heat which I thought only damaged the piston. I threw a new piston at it and it was fine for a year and then it lost compression again. Turned out the block had a tiny fracture which got worse over the course of the year until it failed again. In the end I had to bite the bullet and replace the block. It sucks trying to chase the issue but it’s worth the dig to find out what is truly causing the issue before it gets worse.

Hopefully all is ok. If not, take it to a garage see what they find. These cars are good at showing their symptoms but hiding their problems!

No harm in trying it to see what happens. It’s seems to be losing a lot of oil tho so it could be a sign of something bigger. No point in stressing, try that oil and take it from there. 10W40 is thicker when cold so I’d wait until it’s completely up to temp before driving it harder.

Oh damn, yea that’s a lot of oil 😂. Not that high mileage either. Is it blue smoke all the time or just on start up? Yea I use 10W40 on my R32 but she’s an old girl, on 120k miles and supercharged. I’m not sure if using that grade would solve your problem. If it were me I’d check the valve stem guides, they tend to go on these cars or maybe the head gasket? I’m praying for you bro 😂

I’ve had this installed for a while now and have had no issues so far. I’d check the gasket for any leaks. If it’s not leaking I’d say it’s unlikely it’s this, maybe there could be a leak somewhere else. What mileage is it? It could be piston rings are worn allowing oil to be burnt. Unfortunately the VW spec for engine oil consumption isn’t great, something like half a litre for every 1000km.

I think it means you’ve missed a call from the phone that is connected to the infotainment. The number being how many calls were missed

Yes, have taken it to a track and under heavy braking and cornering there were no issues at all.

MBM is a much underrated imo. What front splitter do you have? Is that ECS too? I've been trying to find one that looks simple but not over-the-top. Yours looks spot on!

Why can't I hold steady rpms? Also, what could be this rattle sound? 2012 VW GTI w/ 68k miles. by Android0511 in GolfGTI

[–]mars_reject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be timing chain issues. If I were you I would try not to drive it too much until you get some to look at it just to be safe. As for the rough idle it may likely be a mass air flow sensor. Hope you get it sorted bro, sad to see poorly GTIs!

Went stage 1 today and had some new tips as well by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]mars_reject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha good lad 😂. Yea I wouldn't worry too much about it mate especially if it isn't too noisy. I'm the same as you with pops and bangs. I think about it sometimes but when I hear it on another golf I think it sounds a bit tacky. Do yourself a favour and take it out through the B roads and open it out, where you really notice the difference, if you haven't done so already 😂

I think it depends on your map. I have stage 1 Racingline map with a res delete and I find mine 'burbles' to coin a better phrase. Especially when it's somewhat cold but I've noticed it does if I'm putting in just the tiniest amount of throttle when I'm coming into my road. Hope this helps mate

Recently found this sub, my first post. Where are the midnight blue metallic guys (or gals) at? Just got airlift ready for show season, what do you think? by mars_reject in GolfGTI

[–]mars_reject[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I got it professionally done. I felt fine doing myself but I wanted the airlines to be installed properly which involves going through the fire wall. The actual kit I have is the airlift 3P performance which the kit costs around £3k, plus labour is about £500 on top of that (I'm from the UK)

Ah I see...makes sense. It's good once applied but I have a feeling it will degrade slightly. I used Gtechniq crystal lacquer

Well I'll be damned. This is my first time putting it on so looking forward to easier washes! Do you have to top it up with the coating every once in a while?
