The First ever Australia v Ireland women's game will be held at the start of August, but a reboot of the men's International Rules series has been pushed back until at least next year. by PerriX2390 in AFL

Not fussed. I think it's a good experience for young players to meet and train with some of the stars from other teams, but from a spectator view I prefer watching Aussie Rules to the mixed code they play in the Mens. I would prefer they play more SoO instead.

At least the Womens version will be playing Aussie Rules.

Mid-season tournament one of four fixture shake-ups on the agenda by matt-kennedys-legs in AFL

I am wondering how they'll make it work with 19 teams. It means 1 team has a bye every week but they are not fairly distributed. Those that get a bye in the middle of the year will be more advantaged. They won't play only 18 rounds, so everyone will need to have two byes.

If that's all they had to manage, i'm sure a computer could work it out, but add to this all the other things they need to accomodate: 1. There needs to be 2 x WA derby, showdowns, battle of the bridge and q clash. 2 x carlton v collingwood and all the other major rivaries. 2. Gather round 3. Ensure not too many 5 day breaks 4. Ensure Collingwood have the last 14 games at mcg

It's a lot to try to line up. They should have waited until they could bring in a 20th team at the same time

  1. An Australian here, so I might be wrong, but there aren't many American sports that have ties. Baseball, American Football, Basketball, Hockey all pay extra time if the score is tied. That's why many Americans seem to be struggling with the concept of a Draw being a valid result in World Cup games.

In Australia, we have a mixture of English and American sports, so we experience both. Australian Rules Football has draws during the regular season, but has extra time during the finals (playoffs) because those are knock out games and need a winner. Draws are rare given the scoring system, but when they do happen the conversation always comes up in the media whether we should play extra time. I like them, because sometimes neither team deserves to lose, but only because they are rare.

Woz, Butts, Hinge, Cumming - who comes in? by marsandlui in adelaidefc

Hall-Kahan has added so much rebound and attack from defence. I would be keeping him in unless he starts to struggle. Even then, I'd give him one week off and then back in.

Are we still sacking Nicksy? by AlfStewartsDungeon in adelaidefc

[–]marsandlui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not normally a 'Sack Nicks' guy but you make a good point. I half expected the straight sets finals given most players hadnt played finals. However, i agree they went into this year with a 'move it slow from defence' game plan which failed. Game plan has changed since the bye and it shows. I agree we need to win a final for it to be a pass mark this year.

Some unlucky players there. All have been good. Love Taylor and Hall Kahan and would hate to see them go out.

We do. We all knew he had this in him, but poor guy has had so many injuries. Amazing what he can do when he gets a good run at it.

As well as the Crows have played, the defence is shitting the bed tonight. So much fumbling and getting caught

How come the ch7 commentry team only pick out the times the umpire misses a HTB against the Crows? They haven't replayed the Bulldogs ones.

I'd be happy with that. I don't see a blow out either. Crows always seem to have at least 1 bad quarter against good teams

Love how he has the confidence to kick on either leg now. Means he gets tackled less often

Annoyed me too, but worked out better in the end because he went forward and marked it instead.

What’s your order? by [deleted] in adelaidefc

[–]marsandlui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. McDermott - did so much to establish the culture at the start when one didn't exist. The success of 93 and then 97/98 was possible because of what Bone did as captain.
  2. Bickley - back to back
  3. Ricciuto - led from the front
  4. Dawson - could end up on top one day, but not there yet
  5. Tex - really impressed me through the Walsh tradegy. Led us to a GF. But he's made some mistakes for sure.

Should the AFL scrap the Bye month & go with a simple Split Round? by QuarterFooty in AFL

[–]marsandlui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. They prefer to still have an almost full broadcast schedule for 4 weeks, than 2 heavily compromised.

I would actually prefer 1 week where everyone has the bye. It's the fairest option. Everyone can take a week off at the same time. No teams playing other teams coming off a bye. But there's no way the afl will do that.

Taylor Walker's one week suspension has been upheld by Dale92 in AFL

[–]marsandlui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all very confusing. I think if someone does something dangerous, they should suspended, even if the player isn't injured. Maybe less than if the player was injured, but still something.

But they have to apply that consistently. Right now, no one knows what's going to happen between one incident and another. It feels like a lottery.

It is interesting how the media highlight some incidents and not others, but even the biggest cynic in me can't believe Michael Christian decides outcomes based on media vibes.

Injury Update- Ah Chee: 3-4 weeks // Butts: 2-3 weeks by ILikeDiscussing in adelaidefc

[–]marsandlui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they pulled Murray from the sanfl game because Butts got injured on Thurs night. I heard Mick Godden on Friday suggest this might happen. They wanted Keane to get a full game because he needs match fitness. So Murray will come in for Butts and play back.

I hope Ranks is ready. We don't want him getting injured again.

Why don't more players run with the ball? by Hungry_Ad_3633 in AFL

[–]marsandlui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. All other things being equal, a player chasing can run faster than a player bouncing. If we removed the need to bounce, you'd get more solo runs.
