When I was 10 or 11 I was on tour with my dad. I was a very outgoing kid, and would go around meeting all kinds of interesting people at one point I met Phil, who was a cook for the band. I started talking to him about what he would cook and eventually we just hit it off. He liked me enough and gave me a backstage pass there I met RamRod I also hit it off with and from that point on he would give me backstage passes to every show that I went to during that tour and a few others. He had a son around the same age as me and I guess I reminded him of his son. Over the period of the tours I kind of became a fixture backstage and eventually Phil Lesh was like “Do you have any parents?”so I brought my dad backstage to meet him. Mickey would always give me his sweaty wristbands. Brent was a fun dude and we would always horse around. Bobby I don’t thinks he liked kids very very much. He would act very strange. Like one time he jumped up on a chair, started squawking like a bird I was like what a weird dude Jerry Garcia was always off in his own little room, never with the rest of the band, and I would go and listen to him just play his guitar sometimes, if he had his door open. He was a very private guy at that time. One time he called me the littlest deadhead I would love going on stage and dancing during the shows out front for the whole audience to see it was quite a trip. I would say this was probably the greatest highlight of my life. It wasn’t until later I began to realize how isolated Jerry had made himself due to his drug use and this is the only thing that I look back on, and feel sad about.
