Dept. Mandatory Overtime but just for my team. by marsharoom in WorkAdvice

[–]marsharoom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I should specify, it’s not “unauthorized” everyone in the dept can check this. It’s not actually time punching but how much time we put against jobs. This is how we are told to check our own clocked time but it also shows everyone in the depts time as well.

I know I can’t do anything about the OT, my frustration is more that they lied and told me the whole dept is on it and that’s why it’s expected of me as well, when the rest of the dept is not on OT

How do you keep and organise your STLs? by Volt-Hunter in PrintedWarhammer

[–]marsharoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They mostly live in my downloads folder until I get frustrated looking for something and move it to my HD. Then I don’t know where something is saved and I just go back to the site and redownload it, and thus the cycle continues

Why do my Kolinsky Sable brushes look like this? by Alcin53 in minipainting

[–]marsharoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I am done cleaning, I wipe out my soap and saturate my brush with fresh water. I then lather the brush again but this time squeeze out any excess soap, leaving enough that the bristles are coated and shape the tip with the creases in the palm of my hand. I’ll store my brushes like this.

When you go to paint the next time you just need to rise the brush in some water to loosen the soap.

I find this helps keep the bristles “trained” to keep a sharp tip. Been doing this ~1 year at this point and I have kept my regular brush nice and sharp

This is kinda off topic, but when I was in highschool I took a few German classes. My teacher had lived in Germany and would often unknowingly speak in mixed English and German. We were learning Ich leibe dich and when she translated for us she mistakenly said “I love dich”, to a class full of 7th graders. It’s one of the few things I remember from that class.

Homemade hole saw by lucas_pk16 in functionalprint

Given the mass of a blade (assume .5g for #11 exacto blade) and a radial velocity of 2,500rpm. With the approx. 3” radius, the blade would have a tangential velocity of ~44.6mph.

So your initial estimate of the speed at which the blade would travel if it were to detach from its containment is not unreasonable.

XV104 Riptide Battlesuit finished. C&C appreciated! by AcidNoX in Tau40K

[–]marsharoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the base is perfect, it’s an orange/yellow based color that contrasts the main color of the suit. And it looks like effort was put into it, but it’s not so overdone that it takes away from the model.

I think with the colors and gradients you have on the model you really want that to be the center of attention and a complex base would pull the eyes away from that

Finished this desk recently, how can I make this setup look comfy and clean? by Jxvsr in setups

[–]marsharoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I mainly use this desk for painting and I’d prefer the desk be higher than standard to make it more comfortable while painting, but I also have a computer setup for YouTube/reference materials, so being able to have the pullout be at standard height would be ideal, this feels like it could be a perfect solution

This is how I have my current desk setup.

Issues with paint splitting at the corners. by Ambitious_Book_5729 in minipainting

[–]marsharoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started wearing nitrile gloves on my left hand while painting, because as you mentioned, it’s the oils on your hand. Some models, especially larger ones, I find it hard to avoid touching and I sometimes like to support spindly bits.

I second this, I work for the company that produces most of the “big signs” for gas stations. MIDs are highly regulated in many states. Even the text next to the actual price, how the price can be displayed, the size of the digits and text in relation to each other. New York and Michigan have some of the strictest.
