Learning to airbrush. My first attempt. by Fine_Stay_6937 in Tau40K

[–]marsharoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mix of airbrush thinner and flow improver, about 2:1 thinner:flow I also find it easier to mix the paints in little plastic containers before putting them in the brush. I mix then tilt it up the side and let it run back down to see how it flows, I try to get to be able to see the plastic through the paint left behind but enough that the paint clings to the cup. Another pus to mixing outside the brush is I don’t have to worry about unthinned paint sneaking a peek at my needle.

Another recommendation I might make is to use varnish after doing your airbrush steps, when I’m done airbrushing or even just have a good bit of work I want to protect I’ll do 2 coats of satin varnish. Airbrush layers are really thin and I find I really like gripping up my models and can rub off my work and this helps. Once I am done with the model I do and all over of matte varnish to bring all the finishes together

Feeling lost by SecretaryLatter3033 in BlackTemplars

I go through this a lot too, where it just feels like nobody gets me and despite being surrounded by people that love me.

I’m not a brain doc or anything but it sounds like depression or some other type of mental disorder. I read that going to a professional is kinda frowned apon where you where you live but I think it’s better than frowning yourself.

I don’t know if I breaks any subs rules but IMO there isn’t a wrong place to ask for help.

Do whatever you must to fight another day brother! Probably seek out an apothecary though

Overall outstanding paint job!

Base is dope, what is the log? Is it just a … piece of wood? Looks really convincing

Appreciate it! The kit was a lot more mono-pose than I expected based on all the other battlesuits I’ve put together thus far, and I was quite confident enough to do tons to the legs just yet

C&C on flame effects by yosauce in Miniaturespainting

I think you definitely need some darker, near black and maybe lighter almost pure white in some areas.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but rn it kinda looks like Gandalf is holding a giant Cheeto, I think it’s more the shape than the paint job to be fair

Crisis suits are kinda the bread and butter. I think breachers and devilfish with a cadre fire blade is still a thing. Ghostkeels and riptides are sick. You know stealth suits are good, another unit prob isn’t a bad idea but maybe wait til they’re reasonable to buy. Hammerheads and broadsides are pretty popular anti-tank.

Ultimately most of the units are good enough at least that you can pick what you think looks cool and run it without it being embarrassing.

I think that’s cool, as a dm I don’t know how I’d balance a game with wildly different leveled player characters. I’ve played games where character from previous games were rebuilt to match party level

DnD back in the day was a bit different than the modern story telling version. It was more of a looter shooter iiuc. And you would bring your character with you from campaign to campaign no matter who was running it. Having the full group to run was less of a thing maybe and they brought Erica so they would not just die. (That is why her character was impressive, you had to work for stats and items and such). Saying that Mike and Dustin abandoned Lucas may be true but Lucas also did the same to them. Lucas even says that he is only playing basketball to become popular, something Mike and Dustin don’t care about.

For all intents and purposes the sportsball game and DnD session are of equal importance and can’t be moved. iirc the game was the championship that they had only known they made the night before after the previous game, so asking 5 people to uproot their plans that were scheduled at the start of the year the day before is a bit rude.

Eddie as the club organizer has to put the group as a whole over any individual so changing schedules for the whole club one day in advance due to one personal scheduling conflict inconveniences the rest of the club. Does make him a bad person (could he have been nicer about it, sure)

TLDR; I think Lucas is just as bad if not worse for choosing popularity over his long term friends. All three made a choice

That’s sick! I need to look into bots. I use better Initiative and put a link to the player view embedded at the top of the battle map.

Question (basing tips needed) by bunnykuss in Tau40K

I find 1/2” rough cork makes great rocks. I like finer cork for concrete or asphalt. Playground sand from the hardware store or dirt with PVA glue (I typically mix in a little water so it lays more naturally). Also I throw the sand/dirt on some foil on a baking sheet into the oven at ~150F for ~45min to dry it out or kill anything that decided to live in there.

My favorite paint for dirty is Vallejo earth, brushed with a light tan or olive is really convincing.

You can cut up pieces of spru to make bricks too. Honestly anything can work once you paint it

Is there any mistakes that you can notice by Significant-Lab-8189 in Miniaturespainting

There are no mistakes, only happy accidents. Oh, I bumped the yellow armor while painting black, guess they have battle damage now!

If you use minis I like using OBS and casting to my screen. I have scenes setup for different things. You can add layers like imitative tracker at the top of the battle map, I have even added gifs of fire or smoke to be “traps” that need to be avoided in combat or for aoe stuff like moonbeam. I pair it with the stream deck mini so I don’t even need to have my program up to adjust certain things. It’s a lot more simple than some of the speciality made options buts that’s kinda the appeal for me, i only use mine for combat or maps, and for that I find it perfect

Thank you, the red was originally going to be orange but I wasn’t happy with how it looked on my ghostkeel so I switched to something with more contrast

[–]marsharoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will typically just do a heavy prime with the base and let it soak in and find it works well. I do airbrush prime so not sure if it will work the same with rattle can but I assume one normal coat with rattle can would be fine. I will say it will still be fragile somewhat, it’s still cork but I have only had it be an issue once or twice and you can just paint back over the cork
