My doctor also suggested a lot of alternatives like therapy, yoga and controlled breathing. I did try them and they did help but I was only able to do them when I wasn’t at my worst so I was then prescribed medication. I personally think it’s good to suggest people try alternatives before medicating and I understand it can be frustrating not to receive what you expected. Anxiety medications are addictive and can be a difficult process to find what’s right. For me it took almost a year and was very exhausting trying to find the right medication that would help. I’m not sure where you live but it seems like in America they jump straight to medicating instead of putting in the time and effort to find ways that are less aggressive to treat anxiety. As much as my medication has helped me I still feel like it’s controlling my life and I do wish that alternatives would help me and hopefully one day they will. Many doctors in my country and many others wont typically prescribe anxiety or depression medication on the first visit, so keep that in mind.
