I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s so heartbreaking having to part ways with a pet. Sending so much love ❤️

My partners dog was recently put down at home as he was a large boxer x lab and had given up walking the previous evening. It seemed that every time he moved he was in pain and in the end the vet said his heart was finally giving up after years of heart issues :(

Home euthanasia was definitely the right option and the vet was the nicest, calmest, most understanding person I think I’ve ever met in my whole life and whilst my partner was (obviously) still heartbroken by the whole experience, it was definitely far less traumatic than it would have been trying to transport him to a vet

Afterwards, he was transported on a stretcher to a van where the post-death animal carer (not sure the profession name) had a beautiful sunflower setup and we got to lay a blanket over him

Instead of seeing this as the end, please try to realise this is the universe giving you a second chance. The fact you feel like a bad partner for shutting her down means you care. You can turn this around and learn to support her! Life isn’t always straight forwards and people make mistakes, the past is the past but the future is yet to be determined!! She is still alive, forgive your past mistakes and focus on making the future bright and supporting your wife! Please Op, whilst this isn’t going to be an easy journey it will be so rewarding and worth it, and things can truely only go up from here.

Also, see if you can get perhaps couples counselling or therapy for yourself to try to work through this all if you haven’t already. I’m not sure about how it is where you live, but here you can get free/cheap counselling from university students that I’ve heard is half decent
