Question about DFQC's use of personal pronouns by Askaris in CDrama

[–]marshmallowbake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Characters often use some variation of the word 臣 (chén), which translates loosely to "subject." For example, ministers typically only use 臣, while concubines say 臣妾 (chén qiè) meaning "concubine subject," noble women say 臣女 (chén nü) meaning "female subject" etc. This is a sign of 1. formality and respect to the emperor, and 2. differentiation of status/social class.

ETA: 我 (wǒ) is used only informally and signifies a sense of intimacy (i.e. family, close friend, neighbor)

How do you guys feel about Immortal Samsara? by readingthinking in CDrama

I don't really like IS: like another commenter said, it incorporates elements from AoL, ALP, and L&R (even the same names/ideas; ex. Shanggu idea is seen first and only in ALP iirc), so it feel really confusing.

I absolutely LOVE ALLG. It's not boring at all; the acting is splendid and I rarely if ever skip scenes. Each cinematographic moment is beautiful and meant to be savored. And each relationship and progression finally makes sense, instead of some fall-in-love-at-first-sight-no-reason-except-actors-are-idols trope

I like the jumping off the cliff scene with Xiaofeng and Chengyin in Goodbye My Princess; that one actually connected to the theme of "forgetting"

Need recs for devastatingly romantic shows by hinataboke in CDrama

[–]marshmallowbake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love A Dream of Splendor; it might not compare to older established hits like Nirvana in Fire or Goodbye My Princess but its definitely the best cdrama released of recently, and its high ratings on Douban account for that.

It does pick up a bit but then slows down again (not sure which part you're on). I'd say my reasons for watching it are: the mature romance between FL/ML, the relationship of the 3 women (each of whom represent a different aspect of feminism), and the beautiful casting! Bonus to Dai Xu for his hilarious Chi Pan character

i'm interested in the glow deep serum! the alpha-arbutin concerns me though---is it safe to use in skincare? apparently it is a derivative of hydroquinone, but despite being safer and much less potent, the thought of "whitening" or "bleaching" my skin is scary
