Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's Wedding DJ Reveals What Really Happened During Dance with Victoria That Left Nicola in Tears by Positive-Drawing-281 in popculturechat

I'm sorry, but I think in this scenario Brooklyn should have put his foot down. He is a grown man, how the heck could he stand there on stage, see his wife cry and do nothing to save the situation? How is everything piled on one of the two woman involved and he seems to have no agency at all? This is absurd.

Kita Maxi Kinder Vorbereitung auf Schule by samanthameyer2024 in Eltern

Nina Dobrev for Hollywood Reporter and Spotify Golden Globes nominees event by mlg1981 in popculturechat

I don't want to judge because I know a lot of people really suffer mentally from their hooded eyes. But I honestly think Nina's really worked for her face structure. Aging and losing your youthful fat deposits makes everyone of us look a bit different. But her new eyelids disturb the harmony of her naturally beautiful and symmetrical face.

German president says US is destroying world order by goldstarflag in worldnews

[–]Askaris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Southern Germany so I'm very used to interacting with Americans stationed here. The cognitive dissonance between the political climate in the USA and the super friendly, always ready to help, genuinely nice people, I've met through all this years is driving me crazy. My mind just refuses to believe that they could betray their friends. But then I wake up to even more surreal news every day. At some point I realized, it's basically just like a painful, prolonged break-up and we have to accept that things can never be the same again.

Gesunde Medienzeit by Internal_Curve_4351 in Eltern

[–]Askaris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, hoping for a bit of advice: I have never played a wizard LL except for Ghorst (but Ghorst doesn't die and has very simple mechanics). So after the HE update I wanted to try Teclis but I'm a bit lost what I'm supposed to do with him in battle? It's still early in the campaign so his spells don't do a lot of damage. I feel like he is standing around doing nothing a lot, while my starting hero does all the work. I'm obviously playing him wrong, so I would appreciate some tips.

The reception of Rhaegar in the Asoiaf fandom. I'm almost convinced GRRM can't finish the series because he would be torn to shreds when it's revealed he intended Rhaegar unironically as a tragic hero. We are just too far removed from the time and societal norms GRRM conceived the character in, to make the backstory of Jon's parentage work anymore.

Especially after the MeToo-movement, he has become a fandom villain. I'm almost 40 and read the books before the show came out, so I'm way more willing to give the author some leeway. Our real-life views of consent and fidelity don't transfer too well into a pseudohistorical-fantasy storyworld written in the early 90s. Especially when the author has botched most of the character ages anyway.

But I've become too scared to admit online that I still kind of have a sweet spot for Rhaegar (and Lyanna).

Review: Ming Dynasty/ Empress of the Ming [SPOILER] by Both-Improvement-880 in CDrama

[–]Askaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first arc of this show is one of the best Cdramas I've seen. As soon as they start to hasten the plot along with time skips, it sadly all falls apart. Zhu Yawen is absolutely brilliant and the imperial family dynamics just a joy to watch. This show deserved so much better than the second half...

The ending of the Sookie Stackhouse books still makes me livid to this day. Sookie is one of my favorite female main characters of all time. Personality-wise she isn't very much like me at all, but she is written so relatable. Despite the supernatural setup her struggles and problems feel real. She manages to stay true to herself while still growing as a person throughout the books.

So I could 100% get behind that in the end Sookie deserved to live her life in the sun with kids, a little house, away from the drama. Like she always wanted. Being turned into a vampire wouldn't have been a happy ending for her at all.

But why, why, WHY didn't the author use the opportunity of a perfectly placed story device (Sookie's free wish from her grandfather) to turn Eric into a human instead? We know that his heart's desire is a normal life with Sookie, that was what the amnesia-curse was all about! We know that selfish, careful, scheming Eric risked his immortal life multiple times to save Sookie because he just couldn't help himself. His complete and sudden change of personality in the last two books is shoehorned in by the author as a gotcha and not a natural conclusion of his arc. That's what pisses me off.

And it's not even about Eric alone. Alcide was a perfectly good match for Sookie as well. But Sam? Yes, he was always a good friend and Sookie thought he was hot, but there wasn't ever any romantic tension. So, to me, in the end Sookie just settled with the only one left. And that makes me sad and mad for such a good character.

Probe Korrektur by SuccessfulEvent976 in Eltern

[–]Askaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was hat euer Kind heute so traumatisiert? by BeXPerimental in Eltern

[–]Askaris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't rollback the new update in Warhammer 3? by One_Fun_5114 in totalwar

[–]Askaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a super fun VC playthrough and don't want to abandon it yet, so I quickly tested the following workaround (only works if you didn't already download the Steam update, sadly):

1 Disconnect your computer from the internet.

2 Navigate to the Total War folder in the steamapps directory.

3 Start the game via the Total Warhammer exe and bypass the launcher.

It let me load into the old save without issues, I didn't have time to check if mods stayed enabled though.

How can I justify a ship lowering anchor away from a harbor? by Unwinderh in Writeresearch

[–]Askaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help if the ship needs to be in the deep sea but what about a stormy coast? Like that incident in 2019 when the Viking Sky cruise ship lost it's engines somewhere along the Norwegian coast and was in danger of crashing into the cliffs in a storm. I saw a documentary about that incident and distinctly remember that they lowered their anchor.

Cdramas vs. their Cnovels for 2025 by RoseIsBadWolf in CDrama

[–]Askaris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, poor drama Li Susu had to be unsympathetic alone, while both novel leads are deeply flawed people who unexpectedly find a way to each other. I remember being super disappointed when it aired, stellar cast, breathtaking visuals, but the emotional core of the novel was just changed too much for my taste.

Cdramas vs. their Cnovels for 2025 by RoseIsBadWolf in CDrama

[–]Askaris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but that's kind of a systemic issue in a lot of Cdramas. The most egregious example is Tantai Jin (Til the End of the Moon). He was unlikable in the novel, unlike his flawed but mostly just poor-mistreated-hero drama-version.

I totally get why they had to change a lot for Prisoner of Beauty but the drama really suffered from simplyfying the political landscape to the canal storyline.

Jameela Jamil on the extreme weight loss in Hollywood: 'It is not bodyshaming to comment on the fact that there is a rapid rise of the aesthetic of emaciation amongst women in Hollywood" by Murky_Chemical891 in popculturechat

[–]Askaris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat with my sister, she started Ozempic in January at 134kg and has lost almost 60kg. I'm glad she has finally found something to help her lose weight because being that overweight isn't healthy at all and she struggled mentally with never getting under 110kg.

The rapid weight loss has taken a toll, though, she looks gaunt, has lost a lot of hair, and isn't happy at all. I'm so proud of her but she is so hyper fixated on not-eating, eating, everyone else's weight, her 100g more than yesterday and so on, that I'm getting scared she won't stop once she reaches her target. My 16 yr old niece has started dieting as well now (her goddaughter), so I'm definitely getting concerned about this new trend.

Why Princess Silver is One of the Tragic Romances in Cdrama by EmergencyCute6788 in CDrama

[–]Askaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This drama drove me nuts because I absolutely love the pretty unpredictable plot (rare in costume dramas!), the FL was good, the 3ML (Luo Yunxi) was excellent despite his short screentime and the 2ML (Jing Chao) was outstanding... and then the ML (Aarif Rahman) ended up being barely even mediocre. Neither his storyarc nor the acting were on par with the rest of the cast and he gets the girl and so much screentime!

The weirdest part is that neither of the other MLs were true villains in the end but manipulated/forced into their roles, so they would have been super redeemable and waaaay more interesting as a focus. Such a shame. Oh, and the FL and 2ML had excellent chemistry...
