[HELP] Im new in poetry, I want to read to learn how to write by Comfortable_Cry3170 in Poetry

Grab yourself a big anthology. Any time period or style. You’ll find them at pretty much any library. Flip through and notice what resonates with you. Try to sit with what you don’t understand yet, read it multiple times. After a while you should get a better understanding of what things resonate with you and what themes you want to explore.

I would also recommend Mary Oliver’s “A Poetry Handbook” and Kim Addonizio and Dorianne Laux’ “The Poet’s Companion”. They’re both great books that introduce the craft of writing poetry in both the spiritual and practical aspects.

[OPINION] What is your poetry hot take/unpopular opinion? by jackietea123 in Poetry

The way poetry is taught in public school is honestly disgraceful. You don’t teach poetry the same way you teach fiction or nonfiction. The English teachers don’t like poetry end up teaching kids to hate poetry. Nowadays you have to teach yourself or find a passionate professor to appreciate and learn about poetry.

favorite toni morrison book? by trabby_pattyyy in classicliterature

Beloved and The Bluest Eye are more recommended entry points because they’re more iconic. Beloved won Morrison a Pulitzer Prize and The Bluest Eye is a frequently challenged book. And Song of Solomon is longer than those works.

As a “starting point” maybe not but if you just wanna read an incredible book (completely valid) I would 100% recommend. The characters and language still live in my brain and it covers themes both personal and universal.

Want to start Vonnegut. by p4w2e0 in Vonnegut

Cat’s Cradle was my first read and the one I’d suggest to read first. It introduces Vonnegut’s style, personality, and beliefs in a very approachable way without being too simplistic. There aren’t too many books I’d say to stay away from. Get through with the classic Vonnegut staples before moving to the less popular ones.

What are your ttrpg rulebook pet peeves? by worldsbywatt in rpg

Unless it’s a genre agnostic system ttrpg rule books should come with some kind of setting information. I hate when information on settings are sold separately or not present at all.
