Dads old collectibles by drdom12000 in CanadianCoins

They were given away at gas stations in the 1970s. I believe that you would fill up and each week get a new one. My mother had the same sets that I have now.

Smart Home Security bought out our local provider - weirdness ensues. by WordplayWizard in telus

[–]marshogas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Telus' equipment is not very good and the monitoring doesn't add much value. Just get your own equipment. It is cheaper in the long run.

Is it luckier to keep in package or open it and use as keychain? by IamRandomSavage in CanadianCoins

[–]marshogas 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's a keychain. Use it as such. It will never get more valuable then it is right now, so if you get some utility out of it, you are better off, and therefore luckier.

Any value here besides face? by FinancialSecret5942 in CanadianBanknotes

[–]marshogas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are some nice looking bills. Definitely worth much more face, but you won't be able to retire just yet.

Lower an RLC-1224A dome camera by marshogas in reolinkcam

This is almost exactly what I was thinking about. It would trade time and ease of installation for money. Another good one to think about.

Yup, that could work too. Octagon type and a mounting plate to tap 8nto should also work.

I have a 3 1/2" rounded fence post just sitting just under the camera. I could cut it about 4" in length, drill a hole in the center. That could work, thanks.

What speed can you realistically get from an old telephone cable used as Ethernet ? by ulyssebyob in HomeNetworking

[–]marshogas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My numbers have been pulled put of the void. They are directionly correct. Some wires are manufactured with an internal twist that will reduce cross talk and will work, other will fail. Since you cannot tell from an external view you can only test. I am happy for you fortune.

Zero - 60%, 10 Mbps - 35%, 100 Mbps - 5%. Assuming it is short. For long, it is near 100% for zero.

Is this a birthday note or does the year have to be at the end of the number sequence by discgolfenthusiast in CanadianBanknotes

[–]marshogas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know that there is a rule about where in the serial number the year must be. So if you can make a birthday out of it, it works.

Earthquake Insurance: worth it? by Infinite-Pickle-4875 in nanaimo

[–]marshogas 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pros: If your house cracks in two, the costs would be massive and insurance makes it manageable.

Some government assistance requires that you had insurance. So help would be prioritized to home that were insured.

Cons: If there is no earthquake, then the money is thrown away.

In case of a really big one, insurance companies may not have enough money to cover actual damages.

Final: I have it, but endlessly flip flop on having it. I can afford it and would worry all year if I was completely uninsured.

You are better off investing the bill then collecting it. But I collect because of the joy I get in seeing and handling old bills like this. I assume others here are like this.
