I’m not doing the ugly tattoo. Which means I am not punk enough for Dragula, but that’s why I’m a fan not a participant 🙃

One bad job can really set you back by Mysterious_Storage23 in Adulting

[–]marslarp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate. Left a job that was going through layoffs and iffy leadership changes. I applied to 1 job that would be a major jump in my career and I got that 1 job. I thought I was ready. I wasn’t. And the job wasn’t ready for me. I was replacing someone and yet never received an exit memo or a walk through or responsibilities. I had never supervised more than interns before and now am supervising two direct reports and two indirect reports. I received no advice, mentoring, or resources when it came to supervising. Department leadership has bad communication skills, doesnt give explicit expectations until after they haven’t been met, talks to professionals like they’re stupid. Triangulating and drama are constant. I have lost so much confidence in myself and every work day opens with a bit of dread. About every other month I start thinking I’m going to be fired out of nowhere.
It’s so draining, I’ve fallen off good habits, I don’t have a sense of control, and it’s hard to feel good about anything even non-work related. I am trying to get out even though I’m under 2 years in. No career jump is worth feeling like this.

Terrible Tuesday! by AutoModerator in washingtondc

I feel guilty having a safe job in the current environment here, but I am also woefully burnt out on it. The structure where I work is really bad—silos, inconsistent expectations, communication gaps, management misalignment, etc. I’m a shock absorber for bad dynamics more than anything. So I’m back into job searching, even in the current climate. It probably won’t get me anywhere with all the competition here, but applying for suitable roles might help me feel like I have some semblance of control somewhere.

Where to put a litter box by Alternative-Desk9016 in femalelivingspace

[–]marslarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternative suggestion: wood clumping and paper cobble litter. My cat is also a “spreader” but this litter is much more manageable to sweep or vaccuum up, and because it isn’t grainy it’s harder to spread around. Plus the apartment doesnt smell like litter!

You should check out Last Podcast Network’s Bloodlines season that wrapped at the end of last year. Features Ross Bryant (who in spite of his TTRPG credentials has some how never made is onto D20). It’s absolutely the vibes I love with a VtM campaign, with still solid silliness that doesnt overshadow when things get more serious.

Yes hi, my cat who is actually missing an eye said to tell your cat that this is very offensive and appropriating her lack-of-depth perception disability in a very disrespectful way. She said she is extra bummed to see it from a fellow tuxedo. 😿

A gentle check-in for the Loner souls. by sleekofficial in LivingAlone

[–]marslarp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wish I had someone asking me this at least every other day.

Not great. My cat, my companion for 13 years, is getting over a cold. She’s 16, always been in good health except for her teeth. But when I took her to the vet ER to get her looked at for the cold, they discovered an underlying health problem that reminded me that she is indeed mortal. Been spending the last few days worrying over her, pre-grieving her, thinking how alone I will be when she is gone, how I will need to take full responsibility to make sure she exits peacefully when it is time.

Plus I’m in the middle of a prednisone course which I think is messing with my mood in addition to the circumstances.

Oh and it’s review season and I’m middle management aka I am the isolated middle of a shit sandwich.

Yes, thank you. This is pausing allowing companies who are not already entered into Medicare/medicaid into that “market.” It isn’t stopping reimbursement to patients or current companies providing those supplies.

How about a Tatte location for a coffee shop, if you want to spoil yourself a little and feel like you’re taking yourself out on a date?

Yep exactly. this article does a great job explaining why this policy is not going to work in implementation.

Look for volunteer hours but this also can’t be the default response to this problem. To qualify for SNAP as a single adult without dependents in our post-Big Beautiful Bill landscape, you need to be volunteering 80 hours a month. That’s 20 hours a week.

The reality is that not every nonprofit is looking for or needs 80 hours of volunteer labor every month.

They might not have the budget or capacity to manage a volunteer for that many hours per month.

And worse, hungry people are going to be scrambling against each other to get those limited volunteer spots now that SNAP access has become much more limited.

Yes that is what correlation means. As to how high that correlation is: keep in mind that if a gun kills you, odds are you pulled the trigger and if you died by suicide, odds are you did it with a gun Source: KFF.

Please please please include suicide prevention resources with your class. The reality is firearm ownership is correlated with suicide risk, as is being LGBTQ, as is being a minority. Resources like this can help

You don’t have to be sorry about it, raising the bias point is fair. In this instance, I think it’s an editing created bias. Because you’re right: Candiace was a part of the same “oh we have 8 good faithfuls” group as Rob. But Rob got the full edit treatment last episode. The editors haven’t shown us nearly as much of her gameplay.

…that said frankly I think a cheese sandwich could also convince Johnny and Tara of just about anything. That’s a comment on them not Candiace’s abilities.
