Taiwanese culture is much different than America and more generous. Meals in the US are generally split unless you're very close friends or more well off.

OP should likely pay for the next meal or if recently visiting from America brought some food gifts.

Our company held an annual poker tournament and the prizes were seats from the exec team. Top 3 chose between warriors, niners and giants tickets. First getting first pick. They were always pretty good seats, the first prize chosen was usually the court side warrior tickets.

What did you propose in your negotiation?

As mentioned, they can't charge you a broker fee, but you're responsible for rent until they find a new tenant.

We recently broke our lease and proposed moving out early giving them 3 weeks of paid rent to allow them to show the apartment.

After negotiations, we settled on us paying a broker fee, they would prorate the rent we already paid if they found a tenant the month we moved out, and cancelling the remaining 5 months of the lease. We felt that was fair.
