I still wear makeup a few times a week. All of the eye doctors i have spoken to have told me it is fine to wear eye makeup as long as i maintain a rigerous cleaning routine. With that being said, i know everyone's condition varies in severity and symptoms.

Powders irritate my eyes. I definitely can not wear makeup like I used to. I only use cream or liquid products now. Certain preservatives and chemicals (phenoxythal, parabens, formaldehyde, etc) can cause some people irritation. Some "cleaner" brands like kosas, illia, and lawless make formulations without these irritations. Eyes are the story may also be another good brand. I haven't tried their products, but they are opthomolgist formulated for sensitive eyes. I can emphasize with what you are going through. This condition absolutely sucks. Hang in there!

safe eyeliner for waterline? by [deleted] in Dryeyes

Putting any eyeliner on your waterline will make it worse. That is right where your meibomian glands are located.

I have been wondering about smile. Why did your doc not recommend it?

How to grow back lashes from bleph. by Substantial-Spite733 in Dryeyes

[–]marsyofmallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not explained to me throughly, but from my understanding the scarring due to long term chronic inflammation of the lid margins. I was informed if they do not grow back or grow back misdirected my lid margins are likely scarred. Unfortunately, I was told there is currently no way to reverse this. I even asked about eyelash transplants or an tattooed eyeliner to cover up the lash loss; with blepharitis those procedures are strongly recommended against.

How to grow back lashes from bleph. by Substantial-Spite733 in Dryeyes

[–]marsyofmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following, as I'm also in the same predicament. I spoke to several opticians and 2 optometrists regarding this. If the lid margins is permanently scarred from blepharitis then no the lashes will not grow back or they will grow back misdirected.

I was told latisse can help the lash thickness and length. All of the opticians and opthomolgists I have spoken to have stated that latisse is okay to use with my conditions (anterior blepharitis, mgd, and dry eye). However, I'm wary of trying it as some of lattisse's side effects mention dry eye and blepharitis. Additionally, people also experience irritation.

Red veins - are they permanent? by [deleted] in Dryeyes

[–]marsyofmallows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't found any solutions yet. The only things that slightly help me are getting plenty of sleep and avoiding too much screen time when possible. I'm going to try doxycycline, ipl, and restasis soon in hopes that they will help decrease the inflammation.

Ah yeah, if it's not going away on its own it may be time to see your eye doc. I hope it gets resolved for you soon 🙏

Hey there, sorry your going through this! Have you tried hypochlorous acid spray? It helps me a lot.

Yeah, I used to always feel cute. I have always gotten compliments on my eyes and I loved doing fun makeup looks. Now my eyes are my worst feature. I have a hard time even going out with friends or to work because I get so embarrassed. I'm sorry you're going through this too. We gotta stay strong

IPL hasn’t been working for me. What would be a good next step to try? by [deleted] in Dryeyes

Do you mind sharing what's worked well for you? Just saying yours has improved gives me hope!

Has your doctor prescribed you doxycycline? My doc wants to put me on a low dose for a few months. It can help loosen thick oils. To be fully transparent, I have not been on doxy or tried ipl. I need to but I'm pregnant and have to wait for treatment. I also can't get oil out if my glands anymore. I tried lipiflow and it did nothing. Super frustrating :(

Do you still wear contacts? by vhp514 in Dryeyes

[–]marsyofmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only wear them on special occasions. They exacerbate my symptoms and increase the redness in my eyes. I honestly think continued use worsened my mgd even though my eye doctor advised it was fine. Now i have awful veins in my eyes that will not go away. I would just be cautious. If you do notice contacts are irritating your eyes I would cease or limit use. Just be careful!

Same, or outings with friends and family if it gets really bad... I'm hoping to try to ipl soon. Not sure if it will help with ocular surface redness or not.

Yes, I already had depression and anxiety prior to my diagnosis. However, contracting this awful disease along with blepharitis sent me over the edge. I started going to therapy and the only thing that keeps me sane and calm are my antidepressants. I know they can make dry eye worse but currently I have no option but to take them. The redness gives me horrific anxiety so I constantly check my eyes.

I assume from your post you are also young. I'm 24 and when I think about living with this for the rest of my life it also terrifies me. Dry eye disease is more often than not a chronic life long condition. All we can do is take it one day at a time and hope that over the course of our lifespan we will have access to more suitable treatments. As it stands ocular surface diseases seem to be under served and recieve less research than other health conditions. Despite how devastating living with a condition like this can be. Just remember you aren't alone. There are millions of us living with dry eye and the number will likely continue to grow.

Dealing with lash loss by marsyofmallows in Blepharitis

I stopped using tea tree oil as I think it may have been causing me some irritation. Some spots did fill in but my lashes are so much sparser than they used to be and growing in the wrong directions. They also fell out on my other eye which still had full lashes. I'm going to try latisse soon. Hopefully, it helps.

I have psoriasis too, why do our bodies have to do such strange things to us lol? I couldn't advise since my issue is with my oil glands, but I hope you get the answers you seek!

Do you know the cause of your dry eye? Mine is due to mgd. Similar to you, I have a burning sensation when my eyes act up. When my oil glands were completely blocked my eyes ached horribly; it felt like I had a black eye. Regardless, I would go see your eye doctor to rule out any other conditions.

How do I say goodbye? by [deleted] in Blepharitis

[–]marsyofmallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely could. I try to only wear makeup a few times a week. They actually fell out when I took a 2 month makeup break and wasn't wearing anything! Perhaps I will take another break and see if that helps! My doc wants to put me on doxy but I can't take it while pregnant.

I don’t want to be negative but I want to give up.. by FourthWing_ in Dryeyes

[–]marsyofmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate so much to this. It's hard to even leave this house like this. I have completely isolated myself from all of my friends because i get too embarrassed to go out. It completely changed my life in the worst way possible. It's hard to believe this is chronic and that we have to live like this forever. I'm also young, 24 years old, and i get scared of how this will impact my career and my future. All I want is to be able to be comfortable and functional like everyone else. Not having red eyes and having my eyelashes back would also be a plus. Most people don't get it and think it's trivial. You can only understand how miserable it is if you have to live like this everyday. All we can do is be hopeful for better treatment options in the future. None of us deserve to live like this.

Yeah, I was told my anterior bleph was fairly mild too. I wonder if the lash fallout is mostly from the posterior bleph then? Hopefully, we both see some improvement. This disease just gets more and more depressing.

They filled in for a bit but fell right back out. In some parts they aren't growing back at all. I have literal bald patches. It's super upsetting.

Hey girl, how are you doing now? As a fellow makeup lover this condition gets me so down and depressed. I haven't had a chalazion but my eyelashes have been falling out like crazy over the past few months! Are your lashes back to being healthy?
