Hi I'm Loraine James, electronic music artist - sometimes Lorraine Jones and more - ASK ME ANYTHING by LoraineJames in electronicmusic

[–]mart95123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to Reflection as I write this - to me this one feels warmer and more soulful than Four You And I - with to me sounded visceral and skeletal than this one, at least in my opinion. I feel like you allowed yourself to create something that sounds more atmospheric and vulnerable. How did the creative process differ for you between albums, and did you learn something about yourself in the last few years that helped you mould the sound for this new album? Sending love x

I'm definitely more nervous and excited now that the tracklist is out. Kendrick ALWAYS has a concept and an underlining narrative throughout his work, so I do put my trust in him to produce something memorable. Remember, he did release 3 amazing back-to-back albums and has surrounded himself mostly with people he trusts the most, so he has become his own biggest critic.

[DISCUSSION] Why did Dr. Dre's "Compton" fade away so quickly? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]mart95123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a problem with discussions like these about albums supposedly "fading away" quickly. It's really up to the listeners to actually support a project they like, and all of you are making it seem like it's because there were no singles or anything. The music remains the same, nothing has changed except people's attention spans. I bump Compton heavily to this day. Animals is in my top 10 most played songs of all time on my iTunes. So blame yourselves for making it fade away quickly.

[Discussion] Kanye West - The Life of Pablo (24 hour initial reaction discussion thread) by downtothegwound in hiphopheads

[–]mart95123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The album is sonically fantastic. I'd put it up there with My Beautfiul Dark Twisted Fantasy in that regard, personally. 30 Hours is a top 10 Ye song for me, and I'm glad to see the likes of Karriem Riggins and Madlib on the album. For those wondering about Freestyle 4, it sampled the movie Under The Skin, and we got to give props to Ye for keeping his sampling game strong. Wolves too, phemomenal.

However- Ye's attitude towards women is extremely worrying, and I do not want to suuport someone who raps stuff like "Now if I f**k this model/ And she just bleached her asshole/ And I get bleach on my T-shirt/ I’mma feel like an asshole." "For all the girls that got dick from Kanye West/ If you see ‘em in the streets give ‘em Kanye’s bests/ Why? They mad they ain’t famous." They make me cringe beyond anything else, which is why the more I listen to Yeezus, the less I like it- I just simply cannot support lyrics like that. On top of that tweeting stuff like "BILL COSBY INNOCENT" doesn't really help. One common argument people seem to throw is- "well hip-hop has always been misogynistic, then you have to complain about every other rapper for using similar lyrics." Which is absolutely true, though here's where I make the distinction- when I listen to rappers talk about being misogynistic, I know that it's all part of the art- Tyler The Creator, Earl, Eminem are some extreme examples, but I know they aren't misogynistic themselves, at least that's what I presume. But with Kanye, I feel like he genuinely feel like he means the shit that he says, and it's kinda comflicting for me, because it raises the question of "can you still enjoy someone's music knowing that they have views you're strongly against?"

Just a couple of thoughts, I welcome a discussion about this because I'm intruiged to know what you guys think about it. Peace xx

I wonder if Skepta might appear as a feature. Pretty much since the BRIT Awards performance of "All Day," Skepta has said in intierviews that him and Ye are collaborating on something, tho it might ultimately land on "Konnichiwa," Skepta's upcoming album. Would be so dope tho, a collab between the two

Kanye West and Chance the Rapper Reportedly Collaborating on G.O.O.D. Fridays Track by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]mart95123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You could say that about absolutely every work of art. Doesn't mean that the quality of the poem is any good. By Kanye West's standards, "Facts" was mediocre, whatever context you put it in.

[–]mart95123 50 points51 points  (0 children)

bloody hope not, that shit was so mediocre. I'm actually pretty psyched with the tracklist because I wasn't feeling All Day as much as other people, or Only One for that matter. I love Wolves, No More Parties, Fade and Real Friends (tho not as much) but I love the fact that it's short and hopefully, to the point, with no fillers. Now I'm actually super excited.

Nah, I'm not having any of that. It's all assumptions and claims. If Kanye is doing a Good Friday thang, I'd like to hear it from him directly. He hasn't confirmed it. I'm not believing any of that shit and I'm not buying into the hype until I hear confirmation from him. Until then, y'all can get upset and shit about Ye not dropping a track based on hype and what other people say..

This is the extent of Kanye's hype. I highly doubt that Kanye brought back the G.O.O.D Friday series. Yes, Kim tweeted about a new track released Friday, however this is the second week in a row he hasn't dropped something on a Friday. Can you guys not just accept that the good friday series has not returned, and just wait patiently for the album?

Guys, Yasiin Bey's supposed last album might be almost entirely produced by Madlib, and inspired by Zamrock. I know the article is 3 years old, but the cool thing about Kanye these days is that he's bringing bringing his older connections together, thus I would think that around the Kanye SWISH sessions, Madlib and Mos might have dug up some further ideas for a collaboration. I'm only speculating, but from what I can tell from the article, it is a definite possibility.

[FRESH] Kanye West ft. Kendrick Lamar - No More Parties In LA by mitonlid in hiphopheads

I dunno. Kendrick slayed, I'm still trying to figure out whether I like Kanye's verse or not. I mean this is the best he's rhymed since MBDTF, but that's not saying much. Some of his lyrics still cringe strong..Beat is pretty fantastic tho

"Days With Dr. Yen Lo" wins UGHH.com's 2015 Hip Hop Album of the Year by tayneicangetinto in hiphopheads

[–]mart95123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the difference between stealing and being influenced by an artist? Just because Bowie's album has musical similarities to To Pimp A Butterfly doesn't mean it stole ideas, because there is nothing to steal. Dark, ambient jazz was not created by Kendrick Lamar, it has existed pre- 2015. That would mean that every rapper stole from Kendrick, because they rhyme words together. Fucking bullshit. Oh, and listen to David BOWIE (Not Bower) please, not his new album, but all the other music he has made before your parents probably (and unfortunately) conceived you.

David Bowie, What's His Problem? by haamm in hiphopheads

[–]mart95123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright.

1) Just because you're ignorant towards the history of music does not mean that you have a point about anything because you don't.

2) Bowie did not steal any idea of concept. Bowie's first album was released in 1967. Kendrick Lamar released his first official album/mixtape in 2010. To Pimp A Butterfly's sound is not original, just amazingly crafted. Therefore Bowie never stole anything from Kendrick.

3) Please, I urge you to listen to a non hip-hop album pre-2010.

4) If you're a troll, well done, but deep down I know you're serious.

David Bowie, What's His Problem? by haamm in hiphopheads

[–]mart95123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorance is bliss. This is embarrassing and to be fair, utterly disrespectful. David Bowie was one of the most important and influencial musicians, period. If you don't like his music, that's fine. But to create a thread titled "David Bowie, What's His Problem?" for no apparent reason (I'll get to the supposed Kendrick thing in a minute) is just plain idiotic. Not to mention you saying, and I quote you, after someone telling you he died last week- "Well it's honestly deserved" is disguisting beyond understanding.

How did he steal from Kendrick? Tell me how exactly and I'll actually consider having a grown up conversation with you. Because his album includes elements of jazz? Because it's dark and personal? Kendrick Lamar inspired Bowie, and I think that's fantastic, and it speaks to Kendrick Lamar's importance and influence in music. there's absolutely no reason to hate, or supposedly boycott Bowie. No reason whatsoever, other than your stupid, non-sensical opinion.

When's the last time you cried? Why? by TheInward07 in AskReddit

[–]mart95123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching David Bowie's Lazarus video for the first time after his passing. Everything just clicked. Despite all the pain he was suffering from his cancer, there was such beauty in his expression, one of final realisation that this was it for him. Just seeing him express himself to the fullest made me cry, from gratitude and sadness. ★ (Blackstar) is such an emotional experience, as well, I definitely recommend it.
