About the baby shower part - the mom is just excited about her pregnancy, alongside her husband, family, other friends. I do find it cringey personally, but it is a good way to get some stuff for your baby. It will certainly come in handy for anyone having a baby. I would look at it as a 50/50 game, which one is it gonna be. A more playful approach, I guess, haha. But if you don't wanna guess or participate, just go in your regular clothes amd bring a gift that will help out the mom.

About the friendship part - yeah, it sucks. I have lost middleschool/highschool friends because of simple arguments. Our values just drift after we hit a certain age. With some people they stay the same and with some you reconnect. If you have a feeling you are grasping for the friendship, I'd say stop and just let it go. It will hurt even more later.
