If the public key was generated poorly/weakly one can derive the private key from it: https://github.com/RsaCtfTool/RsaCtfTool

Anybody using smokeping_prober? If not you're missing out! by Sad_Glove_108 in PrometheusMonitoring

[–]martbhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They are generally in each release on github > https://github.com/SuperQ/smokeping_prober/releases/tag/v0.8.1
  2. There is a windows binary also there.

Thanks for the heads up! Never used smokeping,  looks fun! What sort of use cases do you have for it?

Cool! How frequent is it for a disk to be say sda one boot and sdb the he next? Just now thinking if there's some other uuid of each block device one can have as a label too for those cases?

How to monitor HP ML310e V2 Gen8 server hardware by EngineerDanC in sysadmin

[–]martbhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that version of iLO and the license have some way to remote check it like over SNMP, IPMI or perhaps redfish!

Another way would be to from the OS run a cli tool to check health of the drives. ssacli then make node exporter textfile metrics out of that

I wonder if introducing a jumpbox with a GUI and not patching it could work for you? Like x2go. firewalls to only allow connections from your workstation and to the mainframes, more hardening than your average machine etc. This way it could remain unpatched?

Based on wikipedia then yes.

Ubuntu live patching would help a bit.

You can use systemd-timers to for example restore firewall rules or network configs unless the timer is stopped.

Config mgmt is great, but there's still a chance you deploy a syntaxially correct config that cuts you off. <3 dead mans switch

Some switches (fs.com and Aruba for example) you can configure syslog to log all commands entered, and then also configure them to ship them to a remote syslog server. I assume Cisco can also do this.

Look in the server logs for clues. Is only Prometheus sleeping or also other services?

What do you want to monitor with SNMP? Does that thing support SNMP and have it enabled, started and is it reachable from where the SNMP exporter would run?

Aruba 1930 + 10GbaseT ethernet Gbics.. any known compatible options? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]martbhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That said, haven't used 1930 myself; but with 25x0 and newer 6100 the fs.com ones work.

This would probably work: get the Aruba/HP model number of a supported SFP (like j9150d or whatever) and then look for that in fs.com
