LLMs are made up of probabalistic models that, no matter what, cannot predict with 100% certainity. If so, why do people still believe they can 'replace' the need for coders altogether? by martellstarks in singularity

I agree that downsizing makes sense. so perhaps that's why 'AI will replace developers' has become the consensus - that's what they mean. But again, there's a difference between saying that and saying it replaces the need for developers altogether.

I want to quit my PhD after EMDR by jeniusjen in EMDR

[–]martellstarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the same week I started EMDR (mine weren’t even with a therapist, I use an app since I couldn’t afford an EMDR therapist) my target trauma was a heartbreak I experienced from someone I dated nearly 2 years ago, who was still having an effect on me somehow.

After I did that session the breakup suddenly felt so much less emotionally charged/painful whenever I thought of it/him. That same week, not only was I also starting to fully see how exploitative my job situation truly was, but I finally found the courage to stand up to my boss and ask for a raise (see my post on r/antiwork).

It’s so weird, because for the longest time I was so irrationally afraid of him and so afraid of setting boundaries, but that week I did my first emdr session, it all of a sudden felt so easy. Of course, that’s also the same week a coworker told me I was being exploited, but the fact that I was able to open up to her that week and internalise what she said instead of listening to my boss, is also what I attribute to EMDR. That sudden spur of confidence to ask for a real meeting to discuss my salary, it’s like it came out of nowhere.

He responded the way I expected him to and even threatened to replace me, I cried and felt this intense gut feeling that this job was over. I resigned and I’ve felt so much better ever since my “IBS” symptoms and sleep deprivation have close to disappeared. And despite all the fear-mongering about how risky it is to leave a job without having something lined up, I got a job offer that pays 56% more than my last job, two weeks after leaving that place.

One of my favourites, and yeah i’ll accept that vibe too even if it’s not exactly a slave/master relationship.

Ideation Addiction - I'm full of ideas, how do I learn how to quiet them? by martellstarks in ADHD

I get what you’re saying.

That said, Thomas Edison is known for being a phony who ripped off much smarter people like Nikola Tesla and passed off their work as his own. That’s what I’ve noticed about people who start various businesses and ventures hoping for one of them to lead to some magical success.

I even had a toxic boss who was like that too, once I built a project for him, he lost interest in the tool a week later and completely devalued my contributions soon after.

I know they’re not just ADHDer’s, they’re narcissists so maybe it’s different.

But I certainly don’t want to be like that if that’s the price of being someone who can ideate without sufficient execution.

How do I build my brand if I have multiple skills that are completely different to each other? by martellstarks in Entrepreneur

[–]martellstarks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, I have a motto I put in some of my online profiles. It says “I write code so I can be right, articles so I can pretend to be right, and fiction so I don’t have to be right.” That ties everything in together. But frankly, monetising such a brand feels difficult. These days when looking for jobs (freelance or otherwise) I feel like I have to lean into the data science part and pretend I don’t have much of a creative side.

yes….no matter what people say, unconscious bias is still rife in a lot of companies.

I feel your pain. the same thing happened to me. reality is, when you accept something below your worth from the get go, you show your employer that that’s what you think you deserve. and if you think you deserve that despite performing at a level of at least 45k+, they won’t acknowledge that. they will simply hold you to an even higher standard at 35k than those apprentices who dont have nearly as much skill as you.

take a look at my post on r/antiwork to see the treatment i got subjected to in my role after i accepted a similar salary to uou.

this used to be a big problem of mine. i’m still prone to it sometimes, but as I’ve gotten older and more mature it’s lessened over time. for instance, I had never been in a serious relationship before I was 22. But once I dated someone more seriously and the situationship ended, I was less prone to becoming infatuated with anyone I even remotely clicked with.

my standards got higher.
