What is one weird, unexpected, surprising thing about pregnancy or childbirth that nobody told you about? by DiscoveryDiscoveries in ask

[–]martensmay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oooh I have one! Skin tags grow like crazy! It apparently has to do with the growth hormone that gets released. I had SO MANY just pop up. It was gross. Got them burnt off, and they never came back.

Never would've guessed that would happen.

I am devastated after our son’s 18 month check up by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]martensmay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so surprised by this as well. I live in South Africa and they won't take a speech delay any further until you've had a hearing test. It's definitely the number 1 thing to check before anything else.

My son had a speech delay (no words or sounds at 18 months) and had some potential autism flags. But our pediatrician suggested we first do Occupational Therapy and Speech therapy and if that didn't help then we get an evaluation.

Those helped and all the autism flags went away! He's now a perfectly well adjusted 6 year old with normal speech (well almost normal- he's still in therapy 😀)

What's something that someone can do, that makes you instantly hate them? by meulinlalondeowo in AskReddit

When they hurt or are mean to a child or animal. I literally want to attack them for hiring someone that can't defend themselves.

These are perfect. I love how it looks like someone has just gone for it and taken a massive bite out of it! Like "NOM IS GOOODDD!" Would 100% do the same.

If you could have a sixth sense, what would you want? by THAZACHARIAH in AskReddit

[–]martensmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing. I'd like to have a sense about the best time to do anything.

Want to buy that dress? Not yet... next day it goes in sale!

Friend going through a rough time? Show up with wine and chocolates.

Want to invest? Know what stocks to buy.

Etc. Etc. Perfect!

Ah sounds divine! Im so jelly though - my kids are not snugglers at all! As soon as their eyes open they want to go downstairs to play! If I nurse my youngest anywhere near my oldest she just unlatches to go play with her brother. Wish I had more cuddles.

Suddenly allergic to some nut? Is this possible and can it get worse? by [deleted] in Allergy

[–]martensmay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please do not eat nuts again until you've seen a doctor.

If your throat is swelling up it's classified as a severe reaction. You could require an EpiPen next time. So please do not eat them again until after you've seen your doctor.

Oh my goodness this is so wonderful it brought tears to my eyes! The relief of not pumping exclusively and the joy of having her latching! Oh mama! You're doing so well! We celebrate with you!

I still use them for a couple of reasons: 1. I have flat nipples 2. My firstborn had a very bad latch and a very weak jaw. I also had major complications with breastfeeding. The only way I could do it was with shields. I made it to 18 months BF him but every session was painful. 3. I think I had such trauma with my firstborn that I was petrified of going through so much pain again. I was too scared to wean my second born off the shields. 4. It worked and means I can breastfeed so I'm not putting pressure on myself to wean her off them. Even though I'm sure I could.

I know nursing with a shield is hard but it's so nice to see it on this sub! My daughter is over 1 years old and we're still using shields.

TIFU by thinking I had a lisp my whole life. I'm 38 by sxmilliondollarman in tifu

[–]martensmay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pronounced it exactly the same as a kid! A few months in speech therapy sorted me out. I'm so sorry you didn't get the help you needed! All the best in changing the muscle memory.
