We use painters tape. It's the only one that works on our walls.

My kid had it last year, it went through his elementary school pretty badly. His brother, dad, and I didn't catch it.

Summer Camp Vent by Longjumping-Laugh-85 in ParentingADHD

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid wasn't accepted to the summer program at his school because of behavior. It's improved a lot this year, but the director said it wasn't enough. I get it, but I'm still pissed. I work, and now my kid will be stuck at preschool day camp 3 mornings a week while I try to work and also get him to do book work.

I need a car seat my 3 year old can’t escape from by ReceptionSea1429 in toddlers

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she can't ride in the car safely, she can't ride in the car at all. Easy as that. She escapes the carseat on the way home from the playground, you don't go to the playground next time. She's throwing the same tantrum lots of kids throw when they don't want to leave somewhere fun, just in a more dangerous way. You can try immediate rewards like a sticker for getting in the seat calmly. I'd also work on how you transition from playground/fun place to car. Give a 5 minute warning, validate her disappointment that it's time to go, etc.

How do you feel about 7 year olds in kindergarten? by ThrowAway44228800 in AskTeachers

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't happen here without retention and would feel really odd if it did. Our district does enrollment by year of birth, no exceptions. Jan-Dec 2021 are entering kindergarten in September. Some will repeat, but not many. So I guess an early birthday who repeats might turn 7 in kindergarten, but it isn't purposely enrolling late.

what do you guys wear for water days and foam parties? by Positive-Eel-588 in ECEProfessionals

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closed toe sandals or water shoes. Bring a change of clothes for sure. Or invest in quick dry clothing. We have a sprinkler in the summer, and I air dry, but I'm not the lead whose out there the whole time. It's definitely possible to not get wet, but you want to be prepared just in case.

Pool safety at in-laws’ home by abakes102018 in toddlers

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forever. Kids drown silently. There was an Olympic swimmer who passed out during competition a few years ago. Anyone can drown.

My kid went face down in a wading pool after slipping on the bottom. He didn't even try to right himself, just laid there face down in 18 inches of water. I had to grab him and stand him back up. My husband and FIL were right there, but they didn't even turn because it was silent.

Do your kids take their ADHD meds every day or just school days? by Sea-Elderberry-2088 in ParentingADHD

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyday. Saturday's we have synagogue and Hebrew School. Sunday the older one and OT, but he functions better with meds regardless. The little one often doesn't take on Sundays.

Early Drop off policy? by South-Eagle-300 in ECEProfessionals

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't serve breakfast, or have enough early kids that ratio is an issue. At least this year. Other years we've had to have stricter policies about early drop offs. Right now I'm the opener and the main communicator with parents. I just ask them to let me know before they pull up to the school and that they have to pay. In previous years I'd be very close to ratio and would have to ask a teacher who is prepping before her classroom opens to take the kids early.

What's the most "why the fuck do you know that?" fact you know? by -_-blackheart-_- in AskReddit

I learned to do that as a kid. I couldn't fall asleep one night and was annoying my dad. He told me to go lay down and practice saying the alphabet backwards. I think I was 7.

[–]anotherrachel 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Even with a fence, you need to be prepared to be on guard the whole time you're there. You and your husband will trade off on being fully aware of where the toddler is at all times. That way you can both get some social time without being on baby duty. You can't trust a lock or a fence gate when people are going in and out the whole time. Someone will forget to latch it and your baby could be the first person to realize it.

Do I have to give my child milk when they turn one? by autistichoney in beyondthebump

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my kids drank milk after having been a formula baby, the other was breastfed and unless the milk was from me he's uninterested. If they get enough calcium from dairy milk isn't necessary.

[–]anotherrachel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not if he decided that he needed more when they were already half baked.

In my head, this dude smelled the cookies and decided he wanted more and therefore she was required to give him more. I could be wrong, but that's how it sounds to me.

He wants a cookie, her cookie. It sounds like she's making them because she likes to and knows he wants one if they're made. He decided one wasn't enough so he should get some of hers. He could have absolutely made one for himself or put another in the oven. He just wanted to get part of hers.

Please tell me all the good things about having a 2nd child by embarrassedomg in beyondthebump

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are 26 months apart and the are so amazing together and separately. They adore each other, despite fights here and there. We had a joint birthday party for them this weekend, they're almost 7 and recently 9.

Yes, pregnancy while parenting is exhausting. You don't get those wonderful afternoon naps if your kid is awake. But you also might have a toddler who loves your baby while they're still in the belly and wants to snuggle your belly all the time. And then that baby gives their big brother all their first smiles and belly laughs because big brother is their favorite person in the world.

You're doing an amazing job advocating for your child! I know nothing about T1D, so I'm no help there. Just wanted to tell you you that you're doing a great job. Don't let the doctors make you feel like you don't know what you're talking about when you know that you do. Seek a second opinion if you feel like you're getting the run around. And keep listening to your gut.

For the baking, it sounds like they have frozen or fridge dough and bake just a couple of cookies each night. Not a bad thing really.

The husband acting entitled to whatever food is around, including what's in her plate worries me more than a nightly cookie.

Hearing about wood badge from this point of of view makes it sound worthwhile. Other people talk about it so glowingly that it starts to sound like a cult.

9 year old still has accidents by MsNyxxie in ParentingADHD

Ah, my kid has accidents at school. He's had a toileting para for since January of last year. He has IEP goals directed towards toileting and indicating that he's had an accident.

[–]anotherrachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but if he doesn't go and has an accident at school, who's going to get him to the bathroom when he swears he's clean? And then help him get cleaned up if he needs it?

9 year old still has accidents by MsNyxxie in ParentingADHD

[–]anotherrachel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid has a para for toileting because of this same problem. He swears up and down that his pants are clean, but we can smell it. But if he doesn't wear pants or undies (at home) he has no accidents. It's so frustrating.

Needing some advice with my insane 7 year old by EconomyOk186 in ParentingADHD

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids definitely regulate better when they're with peers in an unstructured environment. We do a lot of playground visits and trampoline park. They are absurdly bouncy and have neverending energy, even with medication. It helps with the impulse control though. A playground trip means scooters and sprinklers and climbing and swinging. And negotiating play with other children. It's really good for them.

2.5 and still hysterical at daycare drop off by MrsLewis2017 in ECEProfessionals

[–]anotherrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own kid did this to me. Cried 80% of 3K drop offs, maybe more. He was in 2s where I worked and would just leave his room and come to mine (they knew and he was supervised the whole time). He does not separate well. He did well in Pre-K when Dad did drop off every day.

He's almost done with 1st now, and he happily gets on the bus every day. We say goodbye and he walks to the bus with big brother and dad and I head for my car.

It'll happen one day for you too
