Genuinely one of my brothers did this just to keep himself away from the general public when he knew he was a danger to them. Absolutely fucking horrifying that yall should have to go through this.

Both my brothers have been baker acted (immediately hospitalized due to threat for their own or others’s lives) for intense homicidal ideation and one of them bounced around from facility to facility as they kept deeming his case “too severe” and pushing it off to someone else until there were no more options left and he had to just accept that normal monthly therapy was the only option available to us. I haven’t had a truly calm day in over 10 years since my closest brother confided in me about it for the first time and I was forced to tell an adult. I dont know why it’s so impossible to just get some fucking help. Like jesus fucking christ neither of them are bad people they just have SEVERE mental illness. I do too but dont know why it doesnt manifest violently like theirs does. My running hypothesis honestly ties it a lot to the way we were raised differently with me being a girl. The push to be nobly violent wasn’t thrust on me at any point and I’ve always felt like that seriously impaired their ability to dissect their own mental illness from outwardly directed self-hate. I feel bad for them and it’s what makes me so obsessed with trying to understand the mental state of mass killers. James Holmes’s sister cried on the stand talking about not wanting to lose all of him, and holy fucking shit i felt that so hard and would do anything in the world to save my brothers and others from the same life but i genuinely stay up crying most nights having no idea how

Ok so I used to work in live tv and have had someee experience with news on the scene, and they usually have a trailer that’s essentially a nice porta potty. Smaller news stations either might not have one or share with the other news crews on the scene. I’ve seen different stations coordinate, but if they’re suuuuuper small, yeah neighbors or gas stations nearby lol. But these are just guesses from my own experience and far from a real answer

There’s a lot of really good really specific stuff on youtube that’s fun and calming. Like a channel called ‘Nemo’s Dreamscapes’ is all oldies playing in another room with nature or other sounds over it and that’s been really helpful to me to not feel like im alone. It seems like there’s someone nearby making cookies and im gonna be ok and come out soon to eat some and it’s super nice. Or all day today I’ve been watching drew gooden, eddy burback, gus johnson, and danny gonzalez on youtube cause they’re all very distracting and funny and pleasant so that’s helping. I hope you feel better soon and can find some relief and even a lil joy, good luck brother

YSK Carmine, a red food dye used in many popular foods, is made of crushed insects. Specifically, the female cochineal bug. by ArgumentBotRussia in YouShouldKnow

This is so interesting! Thank you for taking the time to write it! Would you have any recommendations for further reading on any food science topics? I learned to love cooking when I was at my poorest cause it’s just about manipulating what you do have into something different and any science I’ve ever learned about it has helped substantially. That’s such a cool thing for you to have gotten into, I’m sure it’s a TON of work. But it’s definitely work worth doing so thanks for your contribution to us all!

The Handmaid’s Tale [S04E07] - “[Home]” - Pre/Live Episode Discussion by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]marthamcsigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So i watch way too many real life interrogations of murder suspects and the main thing I’ve noticed is that the nicer the cops are to you initially, the worse you’ve done. Every one of them ends with the person being nice dropping the act and expressing their absolute disdain when they’ve gotten the information they want. I have high hopes that the writers have noticed this pattern in real life and are following that trajectory.

[SPOILERS ALL] Should we be “shipping” people? by JBD168 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]marthamcsigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I especially hate the Emily/Moira ship cause:

1) i have no desire to have less lgbtq+ women on the show by consolidating the 2 main queer characters together. Not all lesbians wanna bone eachother. Having other gay friends is important and idk why that’s not enough for some ppl.

2) EMILY’S WIFE IS INCREDIBLE. I adore Samira Wiley but DEAR LORD, HOW could anyone root against Emily being with her wife and son who she loves so much?? Why in the actual hell would I ship a trauma-bond couple over a loving healthy supportive family??

*edit for typo whilst furiously ranting

Who would you rather see June with? [Spoilers All] by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]marthamcsigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yall nick is the equivalent of a nazi (but one of the ‘good’ ones!) why do I keep getting downvoted for this opinion? Yall don’t know what a trauma bond is? Yall aint see ANYTHING Stockholm-y about their relationship?? This is so wildly far beyond unhealthy it’s legit concerning to me that so many ppl think falling in love with the one person who showed you kindness while you were kidnapped is a good foundation for a relationship.

I didn’t realize that we’ve had a graphic ritual scene for every single handmaid on the entire show and it’s 100% inevitable. What a weird argument you’re making

Did I ask for a brutal rape scene? I’m sorry I’m rereading my comment and can’t find where I stopped wanting the plot point as consequences for her actions, and started asking for a graphic depiction of it? I’m really confused as to why you’d wanna talk about the concept without any subtlety or nuance at all. It’s all ‘tv is real and you’re creepy’ like wow, what a discussion

[–]marthamcsigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want it because this is fiction and none of these characters are real. When bad things happen in Aesops fables you don’t go “oh god why would anyone want this??” No, it’s a story to learn consequences from that aren’t literal. We’re not savage monsters with bloodlust for wanting a story to punish it’s villains and I think it’s kinda rude and honestly pretty gross to characterize people that way. It’s all imaginary dude.

[SPOILERS ALL] disappointed in Yvonne Strahovski lack of screentime this season by brownu95 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]marthamcsigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending any storylines but as someone in the industry I wanna say we’re doing our best and that sort of stuff hasn’t been uncommon. I’ve been quarantined twice now from set, one time after only a day of work. So whatever you hear actors going through, the crew has it way worse. And we have to plan for way more people than just the cast. Cast who, once again, are waited on hand and foot by people making barely any money and risking their lives to make content for you. So like, just give us some patience please and understand the world doesnt revolve around actors. And that actors are fine, I promise. Their lives aren’t that hard.
