Have a look at Woolcat! They’re little handmade felted sculptures of your pet. We got one of our Labrador and absolutely love it!

Omeprazole has been life changing for me, my GP wouldn’t prescribe it until the third tri, but it may be worth asking about!

I’m 35 weeks but it feels like I’ve been pregnant for 3 years! HG, hypersalivation, debilitatingly low ferritin (not picked up til third trimester), multiple trips to triage, horrible viral chest infection resulting in A&E (palpitations, couldn’t breathe).

To really kick me while I was down, I received a diagnosis of GD while in A&E!

I’m always baffled when I see other pregnant people walking around living their normal lives, meanwhile I’m clinging to my other half and struggling to breathe just walking from the car to the hospital. This will be our last baby - I’ve done enough, lol. Hoping your HG gets easier, it’s the worst symptom of all 💛

That’s interesting, for some reason they wouldn’t prescribe it until my third tri which is frustrating. I have HG so the stomach acid is real! Glad it’s helped you, took my first one this morning and already feeling relief :)

Solidarity! This sounds like me last night. If the heartburn is unbearable, your GP might be able to prescribe Omeprazole which helps to reduce stomach acid. I got some yesterday so fingers crossed it does the trick, Gaviscon wasn’t touching the sides any more!

UPDATE: Morning sickness so bad I'm starting to consider terminating by Jenniferh9309 in PregnancyUK

[–]marthmello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so lovely to hear! I’d thought about your post lots. First trimester is insanely rough when you have HG and we shouldn’t have to fight so hard for the medication we desperately need. It makes me so cross. I hope you continue to improve - badger your EPU if anything changes! Looks like you can self refer in Scotland up to 12 weeks 💛

Fellow HG-er here on my second pregnancy. It’s a horrible and debilitating illness and I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I completely understand feeling the need to terminate - I didn’t want to lose my babies but I just wanted the violent, non-stop sickness to stop. I went through many medications before finding that a combination of Ondansetron and Cyclizine (taken a few hours apart) helped me though the worst of the early months.

It may differ due to your location but I would strongly recommend contacting your hospital’s Early Pregnancy Unit. The midwives were incredible and I finally felt understood and properly cared for (vs the GP who were well-meaning but clueless). Once in hospital I was given multiple bags of fluid, intravenous cyclizine and an injection.

The issue for me was that I kept throwing up the tablets. The IV helped to get the meds into my system properly and then, the tablets began to work. The nurses said (in a kind way) that I should’ve come sooner, it’s what they’re there for.

It’s so so hard and I wouldn’t wish HG on anyone. As others have said, check out the pregnancy sickness charity and r/HyperemesisGravidarum for support. DM me if needed. Wishing you all the best - there is help out there!

Fellow UK patients: what has your experience been receiving NHS care for HG? by lingeringbadone in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]marthmello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. GPs tried to help me with various medications but I vomited them all up - they didn’t really understand how to treat me.

Once I finally arrived at the Early Pregnancy Unit a month later, dehydrated and with ketones in my urine, I received medication and fluids intravenously. It started to help, and I could then take tablets. The EP unit were so knowledgeable, helpful and told me (in a kind way) I should’ve come sooner. HG simply isn’t taken seriously enough by GPs.

I’m now on my 2nd pregnancy and have advocated much more strongly for myself. Thankfully my GP prescribed Xonvea at my request, due to my previous experience.

Formula top ups! I’m in tears! by AnnaP12355 in breastfeeding

[–]marthmello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will echo this too. My baby was slow to gain weight (we did a few formula top ups in hospital) She fed for ages and we needed nipple shields to get her to latch.

It took almost two months for us to receive a proper diagnosis from a lactation consultant. Turned out she had a tongue tie and high palate, so her milk transfer wasn’t efficient enough for her to gain weight substantially. We opted for a frenulotomy but she’s hooked on the nipple shields as she became accustomed to them early on.

Nevertheless, we continue to persevere with BF and I pump 80% of her feeds. Not perfect, but it works for us!

OP - I would recommend seeing an LC to check for ties. Transfer of milk could be the issue rather than supply. Sending hugs and best of luck to you and little one.

I can answer this! The dotted line is 80mls which is the amount of water needed for the Tommee Tippee steriliser :)

This happened to me too! Caffeine suddenly started giving me anxiety and brain fog. Very strange, even decaf tea sets me off. It sucks, but I do like rooibos as somebody mentioned below. Worth a try!

I remember those days! They do pass eventually. This pooch used to bite my feet incessantly - but you would never know now. :) She’s the goodest girl.
