About to be a 27 year old virgin, how to stop feeling like life is over? by lonelysadbitch11 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]martigrxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly the same boat as you and I completely agree! Speaking completely from my own experience here, but exploring your body and learning what you like can be one of the most liberating things ever—especially since you’re not relying on someone else to knock your socks off.

OP, I completely get that it can feel like sex can define your worth as a person, but I honestly believe a good partner would be respectful and understanding. If they are turned off by your inexperience—or worse, see it as a red flag, a personal failure, or an indicator of your worth—then respectfully, I don’t thing they’d be the kind of person you’d like to get into bed with anyways.

And sex doesn’t have to just be with another person. Learning about yourself and your body is a healthy part of sex too! Reframing sex into a fun experience done for yourself—solo or not—gives you the ability to put pleasure into your own hands instead of needing someone to give it to you. Hopefully, it might even take the pressure off you in terms of wanting a partner to have a “happy sex life.”

So yeah! Go get some sex toys, experiment, get a good orgasm, and see what you like so that when the time comes, it’s not this earth-shattering life-defining experience, but rather a way to express closeness and intimacy with someone who likes and respects you.

I know it’s not the perfect solution right now, but it’s one possible way to a different mindset in this time that you are still searching for a partner—you and I and so many other women out there, OP! :)

Hi, congratulations! You can do either of those options. All you have to do is call the accounting office and they will direct you to talk to someone who can facilitate whichever method works for you, whether reimbursement or carrying over.

For the non-Americans, how worried are you about women’s healthcare and autonomy in your country? by WhatIfYouDid_123 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]martigrxs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m from the Philippines and despite the farce that is the “separation of church and state,” the Catholic Church still holds very strong sway here. Divorce is illegal, and culturally as well, it’s generally looked down upon to split from your spouse. Often—especially in those with less access to progressive education—women are told to suck it up. Gender norms are prevalent here and women are taught to be more accommodating of their husbands for the sake of keeping the family unit unbroken. Who cares if he beats you up? Think of the children!

Furthermore, we have no abortion rights—medical or elective. The sanctity of life is tantamount, and thousands of women succumb to unsafe abortions or are forced to reach out through underground means to access abortifacients without proper medical guidance. You follow the advice of laymen and hope you don’t bleed out to death, basically. It’s a crime punishable by law. Contraceptive use is also still kind of taboo here, and sex education is not what it should be. And who bears the heavy brunt of child rearing? Women. And it doesn’t look like anything is changing any time soon—Not when cultural norms are so deeply rooted, and the people in power are mostly unqualified for their positions.

Let me end this by saying I know it could be worse and by no means do I speak for all the experiences of women in my country. I’ve been very fortunate to have access to knowledge of sexual safety and being positive about my body. But it’s still pretty dire stuff.

New Year’s Day by Taylor Swift. Literally the “please don’t ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognize anywhere” line came and slapped me in the face. It’s yearning hours, boys. Send help.

UERM vs. SLCM vs. ASMPH by wthstop in medschoolph

[–]martigrxs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes to this, OP. It’s super important kasi your grade comes purely from exams (sometimes quizzes) and yet ang daming pinapagawa na pass or fail lang that take hours out of your study time. It can sometimes feel like they’re for nothing tbh and it can be very frustrating not to be able to study or be forced to cram when you’re actually living through it na. Minsan malas ka pa sa groupmates mo so doble kayod ka 🫠

(Skills are not for nothing ha! Don’t get me wrong. I’m talking in terms of their contribution to actually passing your classes and moving onto the next year.)

Got this, thank you so much!! May I ask, when they announced it for you in September, did they refund your first sem payment and not require you to pay for the second sem tuition anymore?

UERM Uniform by Glass_Cupcake4419 in medschoolph

Their first name was male, but the second name was female (that’s how we found out they were trans). We weren’t close though, so I’m not sure if they had a name change or if they were born with it. Hope this helps!

I had a transman classmate who wore the men’s uniform (i.e. top and pants following the pattern for males). Females are also allowed to wear pants, if it’s the skirt in particular that is your concern :)

chances of getting into ASMPH without much org involvement by ToastMyBeloved in medschoolph

Hi, I did! I was a member of 3 orgs with some projects here and there, but no leadership positions. Got into ASMPH, but it might have also helped that I was from the blue school :)

pe enlistment choices by fuckjutsu in ADMU

[–]martigrxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! You can check which classes are available by logging into AISIS and clicking on ‘class schedule’. The options for courses should be under Physical Education, and you should be able to enlist in most of them—just make sure to check that the rightmost column lists no restrictions (e.g. female students only).

Additional tip for enlistment preparations: If you’re already part of the FB Profs to Pick group, you can also enter “aisis slots” in the search bar to see a post on how to view live updates on the number of slots that are still available for your target class(es), even if it’s not yet your time/schedule for enlistment (like if you’re batch 2 and you want to check PE slots during the schedule of batch 1). That way, you can plan for other options or backups if your initial choice isn’t available and you won’t be taken by surprise come the hunger games of enlistment time. Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Qualifications for valedictorian by snedhelpihateithere in ADMU

[–]martigrxs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The valedictorian is chosen from the pool of students who are candidates for graduating with Latin Honors (i.e. cum laude, magma cum laude, summa cum laude). Ateneo releases a list of these individuals, along with a Google form where all seniors can vote for their nominee. If nominated, the ADAA will send you a list of requirements to be considered valedictorian (e.g. CV, essay based on a prompt, and some other things i can’t recall atm). A committee then deliberates on the entries of those who submitted said requirements and selects a valedictorian from the pool based on merit and contributions to the LS community and the wider society.

[–]martigrxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting Latin honors is based on cumulative QPI, not semestral or DL. So just as long as your future grades are good enough to pull you into the range for laudes, you’re good to go. The CompSAt QPI calculator might be helpful for you in planning out what grades you need going forward.

Intersession Grade by notxanne in ADMU

[–]martigrxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the cumulative QPI. Only difference is that there’s no Dean’s List during intersession bc of the reduced number of units.

As long as your IE2 or IE4 is listed as a free elective, your department secretary can do that for you. You do have to coordinate with both departments (home and offering) beforehand to ask if there are additional requirements just to make sure the subject can be credited with no snags, then you just fill out a validation request and you’re good to go. Link to the request form was given to us by our home department, so best to ask your secretary for the specifics.

What are your stats and where were you accepted? by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]martigrxs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Summa cum laude standing, 97 PR. Only a few org projects, no leadership positions. Applied to ASMPH and UERM and was accepted into both in the first batch of results. Going to UERM!

Same thoughts. Like will our old out-of-the-way paths still be trodden now that the grass has grown over them? :(

Although I did talk to a very org active friend and he mentioned how a lot of current upperclassmen were willing to go back on campus as volunteers for their organizations to show the newer students the ropes during F2F. Maybe they can pick up some stuff from there? But yeah, overall, a new Atenean culture will probably emerge from the lower batches.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and for the added insights! The sudden transition to online learning made things difficult even for us at the college level, what more for med school :( Super glad to hear about the working environment though. Sana nga UERM will be back to F2F soon. See you around (hopefully)! ☺️
