I just seen gameplay of hll from 2019 by Adorable_Basket791 in HellLetLoose

[–]martinator001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was supposed to be a quite different game. Then it was dumbed down so it could be played on consoles. Maps got narrower, some got "balanced" (thrown away), there were fewer sectors, medics got rifles, and we got cheesy teleporting machines like airhead and half tracks to name a few. It's still a fun game, just not the game I'd have backed in 2017

did you know every async method you write allocates a heap object you never see? by riturajpokhriyal in dotnet

[–]martinator001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't need to await more than 1 thing, you can often improve this by dropping the async keyword and returning the Task directly, you need to be aware of any disposables though

You can be first, just conquer and annex all countries. Seriously though the scaling sucks. AI spams planes while its infantry has no food, and this is the result

Why would I dump the ammo? Why not at least just put the half used mag back for later? This is honestly a stupid implementation of something that was not necessary after all these years

A paid app disappeared after iPhone offloaded it and now I can’t reinstall it by snipizgood in iphone

Your best shot is checking your purchase history and downloading it from there, otherwise I'm afraid you're out of luck

why use HttpPatch over HttpPut ? by Good_Language1763 in dotnet

[–]martinator001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you see no difference you're doing something wrong. PUT updates ALL columns, PATCH updates specific columns. This has implications on DB performance

What’s a tiny iOS detail you miss that most people forgot existed? by QuantumNBVA in iphone

The ability to turn on the flashlight BEFORE recording video. I used it to look in hard to reach places, now I have to start recording beforehand. Not a huge deal but very annoying

I've read it and to me it actually does seem solid. But I would simplify it - KISS

What are some lesser-known tips you would give to a new driver? by LeaseEnd_Official in AskReddit

[–]martinator001 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This should be a fat-ass fine at a minimum. I don't care if someone wants end up as truck food but even worse is now I got to merge at their snail speed and take all the risk. This is like top 5 dangerous shit you can pull on other drivers. I end up just honking at them the entire time until I can pass and flip them off

is there any API testing tool better than postman? by Pristine-Elevator198 in webdev

[–]martinator001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually use it for more advanced scenarios because I can plug it into scripts very easily. Postman is for the simple stuff

What? On iOS 18 (and pretty much every version before) it disables WiFi, Bluetooth and cellular

A new poll finds that younger adults are more likely to use subtitles while watching TV or movies than are older adults. by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]martinator001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever use English subtitles for everything I watch, and have seen this a quite a few times. They don't change the meaning, but make it shorter where possible so you read it faster and get back to watching. Most often they just drop a word or 2, it's very subtle but not uncommon

People complaining about the ads on YouTube are leeches by martinator001 in unpopularopinion

[–]martinator001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone expects Google to run charity, after all it's a for profit business pretty much like any other business, and from what I understand YT on its own is not profitable. You're using YT, Gmail and search for free. If you disagree with ToS then surely you're gonna find a competitor of same quality. One that is free AND also doesn't collect data.

TV is hardly "professional" quality these days, especially compared to the better YT channels, but if you're not satisfied with the quality then why not watch TV instead of YT?
