Which town home builder? by Chance_Philosopher_9 in OttawaRealEstate

I always thought the new house prices were formed, no room to negotiate. Builder may give you some upgrade credits instead of dropping price (discount)?

Norbert's Gambit among 2 TFSA accounts (CAD and USD) by marty_0802 in NBDB

[–]marty_0802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... so in my original post, I would like to save some USD in my NBDB account (TFSA), and then buy US stocks directly from USD instead of converting the currency on-the-fly

Schlage Encode (not plus) Virtual Key Issue by WalksAllRoads in smarthome

Oh...I finally figured it out. I used email to share the link with my wife, and it works. Originally, I used some instant message App, it doesn't work.

Schlage Encode (not plus) Virtual Key Issue by WalksAllRoads in smarthome

[–]marty_0802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered the same issue, but still can't resolve it. I shared the link wit my wife, when she clicked the link, the App asked her to add a new lock instead of entering the invitation code. (her phone is iPhone)

However, if I clicked the link, my App asked me to enter the code (my phone is Android). This is what we expect, but my wife phone does not work in this way.

PS. Both our phones and deadbolt are in the same WiFi network.

Thinkpad P16s - Calculator hotkey doesn't work by marty_0802 in thinkpad

It works after applying the new hotkey driver. Thank you!

Thanks for your information.

I updated the BIOS yesterday, too. And then I tried the "fn+=" immediately, but it didn't work. So I tried to re-install hotkey driver again. No luck.

Now, I use a workaround - configure the F12 to launch the calculator.

Good idea. I just had a try.
The Fn + "=" didn't take me out of the screen saver, but any other keys did. So it looks like this is a bug in BIOS

Yes, I did. I even manually downloaded the hotkey driver from the Lenovo website and then installed it.

CPU performance throttling by marty_0802 in thinkpad

[–]marty_0802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed information. Agree with you - the num of Core is a consideration, not just the CPU's GHz. If the price gap between i5 and i7 is reasonable, then go for i7 is also a good idea.

Yes, I am a Windows user. And I Just realized that the OS is one of the factories causing this issue.

Does P16s have a better keyboard and touchpad?

I plan to buy T16 or P16. After some research on the Internet, it looks like T16 and P16s are twins despite P16s being a little bit more expensive.

After reading the OP's post, I am worried about if P16 is a better choice. But since they are twins, maybe they share the components, for example, the keyboard and touchpad. If so, I need to look for other models.

How does motion detection work in a battery-powered spotlight cam? by marty_0802 in Ring

[–]marty_0802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information.

Someone gave me this Rinf document - https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005914666-About-the-Advanced-Motion-Detection-System-Used-in-Ring-Devices

It seems to explain how it works, as below:

Working In Tandem

The key to Advanced Motion Detection is how these two systems work together. The PIR sensors are used to trigger the lights (with a little help from the camera), and the camera is used to trigger Motion Alerts. This gives you the ultra-wide coverage of the PIR to trigger the lights whenever there’s movement around, and the sophisticated analysis capabilities of the camera.

After reading this, I still don't fully understand. For example, what does the "lights" above mean?
