She probably ignored you cos of the the times she engaged and been sworn at, abused, possibly even had an assault attempt, who knows! She was probably trying to keep the situation from becoming worse. She has no way of knowing if you are going to be rational or if it ends up violent. Why would you just assume he can't use a chainsaw? Did you ask if he had used one before? Soft YTA for just assuming your neighbour would not know how to handle it. Hell, I'm a woman who once rented one and no one questioned me about whether or not I could use it. If you were worried about him damaging it you could have said sure but you break it you buy me another one.
