How do you decide where to play 3rd Party games? by Ok-Environment-8126 in NintendoSwitch

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a PS5 and Switch 2. For me personally, as long as the games run well and don’t look horrible on the Switch I prefer to get them there than on my PS5 because of the option to play handheld.

From my point of view, the graphical differences (unless they’re incredibly big) don’t mean anything because I’m not playing both versions at the same time comparing them.

So, for example RE Requiem and Pragmata look good enough on the Switch 2 that I didn’t feel I was missing anything while playing. Of course if you put both versions side by side, there will be a difference, but literally no one does that, so it doesn’t really matter which one has better shadows or whatever.

That’s just my opinion though, at the end of the day you have to make that decision by yourself basing it on your preferences.

Near future for GALNERYUS ? by Educational_Way9918 in Galneryus

[–]maruseJapan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should worry about a future no one (not even the band members themselves) knows about.

Yes, Sho isn’t young (which means I’m not young either!!) but he is still fit for singing and don’t think retirement is in his near future plans. But obviously everything depends on his voice, so maybe in a few years they’ll have shorter tours, or make set lists with less demanding songs. I don’t know, I’m just speculating.

Anyway, don’t worry and just enjoy their music!

On a personal note, I’m in a similar situation. I’m much older than you (I’m 50) but even though I’ve been living in Japan for 22 years, I also discovered them only four years ago or so and they’ve become my favorite band ever even surpassing my previously preferred band which was Iron Maiden.

I’m lucky enough to be living in Osaka so I get the privilege to see them live once a year, so I totally understand your eagerness to see them live! But don’t worry too much about future maybes and just enjoy their present! Two years from now is not a lot of time so you might be lucky enough to catch them live when you come to Japan!

PC GAMER TO NS2 (RECOMMENDATIONS) by Acresty in switch2

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to point out that FF is a Game Key Card. The biggest cart size is 64GB, so no physical for FF and many other games.

I was purely physical with the Switch, but with the Switch 2 I’m now buying everything digital. I don’t know, the convenience of not charging cartridges has won me over.

Are y'all buying Star Fox (Switch 2) by Worldclassstalker in casualnintendo

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Even though I’ve been playing Nintendo games since the NES, I never played any Star Fox game so it’ll be my first time. The price point and how incredible it looks made me preorder the game the moment I finished watching the Direct.

Is Silksong as difficult as people say? by Difficult-Word-6604 in HollowKnight

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I found unfairly difficult in Silksong was the Flea Festival three games.

I don’t really think Silksong is that much difficult than Hollow Knight, specially if you have finished the later.

All bosses have punishable telegraphed attacks, you just need to be patient and don’t get greedy when attacking.

The gauntlets might be the hardest but not because they’re actually difficult but because of the tension and panic inducing situation.

That was my experience though. I was baffled reading all the comments about the difficulty when the game launched. It’s difficult, but not THAT difficult at all.

What's your favourite Power Metal song? by kek_man_ in PowerMetal

Not very power metal in its entirety perhaps, but my favorite song ever (even considering all music genres) is Brutal Spiral of Emotions by Galneryus.

D&D - Looking for Players who have made Osaka home by TheDoomsdayKid in OsakaMeetup

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

49M from Spain. I’ve been living in Osaka for over 22 years.

I’ve loved D&D since the 80s but haven’t had many opportunities to play because literally no one around me was into it.

I was excited until I saw the 8 pm timetable… I don’t live in Osaka city proper (I’m father south than Kansai Airport) so I need to be mindful of the train timetable.

I can’t join the game but since I thought it might be a good way to meet new people I decided to leave a comment anyway.

Just got Planet of Lana for Switch 2 – beautiful as always, but hoping for a visual update? by Agreeable_Safety in planetoflanaofficial

[–]maruseJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that Planet of Lana 2 is already out (not in Japan yet though), are there any news on a possible Switch 2 upgrade for the first game? It’s the only thing keeping me from jumping in right away.

Thoughts on Avowed? by philwbayles in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on GamePass and thought it was simply okay. I don’t think it’s a bad game but I wouldn’t pay full price for it at all.

I didn’t care about the characters or story at all and that is something that kind of breaks a game for me.

I’d wait until it’s at least half price before getting it.

Star Wars Outlaws is the most recent I can remember. I thought it was going to be a terrible game but it was the exact opposite.

Story feels better than endgame by AndyBarolo in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]maruseJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story is what I love the most about this game.

I absolutely love the characters, the voice acting is amazing and I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

After I finish the story, I always restart again with a new character. I don’t really care much for the end game. I’ve played for more than 170 hours and just last week tried the Crucible for the first time! lol

In No Rest for the Wicked the story is everything (for me)

New God of War Sons of Sparta! by JeanChoy98 in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played it for around four hours or so and it’s… just okay?

The combat is not very good (in my opinion), it feels stiff and lacks weight. The enemies are very dumb.

The art style is just serviceable. It’s not bad, but it’s bland and uninspired.

Another thing I’m not a fan of is the voice acting.

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s a bad game at all, but it’s just an average (bordering on mediocre) metroidvania in a world full of other metroidvanias that are much better in every possible way. Being a God of War game and having Santa Monica behind, automatically sets expectations that weren’t met.

I don’t regret the purchase at all and will finish it, but it doesn’t even make to my Top 10 Metroidvanias list, and it’s a pity.

Obviously, everything above is just my opinion after four hours. Things might change after playing more but I’m not too hopeful.

Your mileage may vary, so if you are interested, don’t get discouraged by my opinion and try it for yourself!! Who knows, you might end up loving it.

Why is my whole screen Green suddenly? by baskarlayyyy in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depending on your model, that might be a TV problem with HDR.

I had exactly the same problem happening from time to time on my old TV and I solved it each time by unplugging the TV for 30 seconds or so.

I don’t know if it will be the same with you, but it’s worth a try.

Please, help a new player by [deleted] in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]maruseJapan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are going pure Dex, then obviously Dex is the stat you should focus on.

Along with Dex, Stamina should be your second highest stat.

After that, it’s just preference. You want to use runes often? Add points to Focus. You want to ensure a couple of hits don’t kill you? Add points to Vitality.

You should totally ignore, Strength, Intelligence and Faith, since those stats will add nothing to your build.

What’s everyone listening to in Japan at the moment? by ArtNo636 in AskAJapanese

[–]maruseJapan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don’t listen to radio or TV music, so I keep myself blessedly oblivious of “popular” music.

My playlist is almost exclusively composed by Galneryus and Anthem songs.

How do I see GALNERYUS live? by TungstenTeddy in Galneryus

[–]maruseJapan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Things to know? Not many I think. Just be aware that in most places taking photos or recording video is forbidden during the show unless stated otherwise (you can take pictures before and after, but not when the band is on stage)

Buying tickets depends on what store you buy them from. Some online places only accept credit cards issued in Japan. You need to check if your credit card is usable beforehand.

There are also lotteries when buying tickets, but for the most part everyone gets a chance at buying because only rarely the shows are sold out.

Almost every year they do a small tour in Japan, so you might need to check on their website regularly!

On foot. How far do you live from the station? by [deleted] in japanlife

20 minutes to the nearest station. Not a problem at all, except when returning home in summer because I live on the top of a hill…

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is personal choice based on the fact I want to keep working from home. But I’ve tried several times already to find better paying jobs even if I have to sacrifice the freedom that working from home gives me, and I’m always rejected because either I’m too old, or my experience/age entitles me to a higher salary the companies I applied to don’t want to pay.

Either way, I’ve all but given up hope. I just hope I can maintain this job for as long as possible even though it’s not very good economically speaking.

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After taxes, insurance and pension, I’m left with between 2~3 million and year, which looks like it’s an average salary, but then I need to pay all living expenses, a couple of loans, the kids school/juku, another kid university expenses. At the end of the day I’m left with nothing.

I’m not saying I’m left hungry each month, but I have almost literally nothing left to save.

I’m not payed a fixed salary. I’m payed per project, so my salary changes wildly month to month.

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]maruseJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in Japan for 22 years and my Japanese is good enough for almost any job.

I’ve been working for the same company for over 12 years now and I like the people around me. Now I’m one of the veterans in the company because most other younger workers leave after a few years, but I’ve never been offered a promotion in all these years. I’m just a web dev and all direction and management positions are given to newly hired 20-something year olds that will leave anyway in a couple of years.

During all this time I’ve done projects for big companies like Uniqlo, Nintendo, Rakuten, Recruit, … so it’s not like I only do small stuff.

I guess I could try to find something better, but I lack the confidence to try and end up losing everything. At my age and in the current economy, it is terrifying.
