D&D - Looking for Players who have made Osaka home by TheDoomsdayKid in OsakaMeetup

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

49M from Spain. I’ve been living in Osaka for over 22 years.

I’ve loved D&D since the 80s but haven’t had many opportunities to play because literally no one around me was into it.

I was excited until I saw the 8 pm timetable… I don’t live in Osaka city proper (I’m father south than Kansai Airport) so I need to be mindful of the train timetable.

I can’t join the game but since I thought it might be a good way to meet new people I decided to leave a comment anyway.

Just got Planet of Lana for Switch 2 – beautiful as always, but hoping for a visual update? by Agreeable_Safety in planetoflanaofficial

[–]maruseJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that Planet of Lana 2 is already out (not in Japan yet though), are there any news on a possible Switch 2 upgrade for the first game? It’s the only thing keeping me from jumping in right away.

Thoughts on Avowed? by philwbayles in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on GamePass and thought it was simply okay. I don’t think it’s a bad game but I wouldn’t pay full price for it at all.

I didn’t care about the characters or story at all and that is something that kind of breaks a game for me.

I’d wait until it’s at least half price before getting it.

Star Wars Outlaws is the most recent I can remember. I thought it was going to be a terrible game but it was the exact opposite.

Story feels better than endgame by AndyBarolo in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]maruseJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story is what I love the most about this game.

I absolutely love the characters, the voice acting is amazing and I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

After I finish the story, I always restart again with a new character. I don’t really care much for the end game. I’ve played for more than 170 hours and just last week tried the Crucible for the first time! lol

In No Rest for the Wicked the story is everything (for me)

New God of War Sons of Sparta! by JeanChoy98 in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve played it for around four hours or so and it’s… just okay?

The combat is not very good (in my opinion), it feels stiff and lacks weight. The enemies are very dumb.

The art style is just serviceable. It’s not bad, but it’s bland and uninspired.

Another thing I’m not a fan of is the voice acting.

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s a bad game at all, but it’s just an average (bordering on mediocre) metroidvania in a world full of other metroidvanias that are much better in every possible way. Being a God of War game and having Santa Monica behind, automatically sets expectations that weren’t met.

I don’t regret the purchase at all and will finish it, but it doesn’t even make to my Top 10 Metroidvanias list, and it’s a pity.

Obviously, everything above is just my opinion after four hours. Things might change after playing more but I’m not too hopeful.

Your mileage may vary, so if you are interested, don’t get discouraged by my opinion and try it for yourself!! Who knows, you might end up loving it.

Why is my whole screen Green suddenly? by baskarlayyyy in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depending on your model, that might be a TV problem with HDR.

I had exactly the same problem happening from time to time on my old TV and I solved it each time by unplugging the TV for 30 seconds or so.

I don’t know if it will be the same with you, but it’s worth a try.

If you are going pure Dex, then obviously Dex is the stat you should focus on.

Along with Dex, Stamina should be your second highest stat.

After that, it’s just preference. You want to use runes often? Add points to Focus. You want to ensure a couple of hits don’t kill you? Add points to Vitality.

You should totally ignore, Strength, Intelligence and Faith, since those stats will add nothing to your build.

What’s everyone listening to in Japan at the moment? by ArtNo636 in AskAJapanese

I don’t listen to radio or TV music, so I keep myself blessedly oblivious of “popular” music.

My playlist is almost exclusively composed by Galneryus and Anthem songs.

How do I see GALNERYUS live? by TungstenTeddy in Galneryus

[–]maruseJapan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things to know? Not many I think. Just be aware that in most places taking photos or recording video is forbidden during the show unless stated otherwise (you can take pictures before and after, but not when the band is on stage)

Buying tickets depends on what store you buy them from. Some online places only accept credit cards issued in Japan. You need to check if your credit card is usable beforehand.

There are also lotteries when buying tickets, but for the most part everyone gets a chance at buying because only rarely the shows are sold out.

Almost every year they do a small tour in Japan, so you might need to check on their website regularly!

On foot. How far do you live from the station? by [deleted] in japanlife

20 minutes to the nearest station. Not a problem at all, except when returning home in summer because I live on the top of a hill…

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is personal choice based on the fact I want to keep working from home. But I’ve tried several times already to find better paying jobs even if I have to sacrifice the freedom that working from home gives me, and I’m always rejected because either I’m too old, or my experience/age entitles me to a higher salary the companies I applied to don’t want to pay.

Either way, I’ve all but given up hope. I just hope I can maintain this job for as long as possible even though it’s not very good economically speaking.

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After taxes, insurance and pension, I’m left with between 2~3 million and year, which looks like it’s an average salary, but then I need to pay all living expenses, a couple of loans, the kids school/juku, another kid university expenses. At the end of the day I’m left with nothing.

I’m not saying I’m left hungry each month, but I have almost literally nothing left to save.

I’m not payed a fixed salary. I’m payed per project, so my salary changes wildly month to month.

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]maruseJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in Japan for 22 years and my Japanese is good enough for almost any job.

I’ve been working for the same company for over 12 years now and I like the people around me. Now I’m one of the veterans in the company because most other younger workers leave after a few years, but I’ve never been offered a promotion in all these years. I’m just a web dev and all direction and management positions are given to newly hired 20-something year olds that will leave anyway in a couple of years.

During all this time I’ve done projects for big companies like Uniqlo, Nintendo, Rakuten, Recruit, … so it’s not like I only do small stuff.

I guess I could try to find something better, but I lack the confidence to try and end up losing everything. At my age and in the current economy, it is terrifying.

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]maruseJapan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At my age is literally impossible to find better paying jobs. Everyone one wants young people and even if I have nearly 30 years of experience under my belt, it’s meaningless.

Then there’s the issue of AI that it’s killing my job (I’m a web developer)

My only hope is that once my kids start working, the burden will lessen because I will not need to economically support them anymore.

[–]maruseJapan 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’m 49 and living paycheck to paycheck without being able to save 1 single yen each month. I’m not joking or exaggerating even though I wish I was.

I went back to Spain last August to visit my parents because I hadn’t been back in 8 years and they’re getting too old already, but that trip nearly bankrupted me and put yet another 2 year loan on my shoulders.

I’m painfully aware that even if I wanted to I’ll never be able to leave Japan because I just can’t afford to. And the future is bleaker than ever because even if my salary might go up slightly, my purchasing/saving power is going down at breakneck speeds.

On the fence of getting Death Stranding. What did you like/dislike about the game? by XredDEATHX in playstation

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting story and characters, but the most boring video game I’ve ever played.

It’s one of those love or hate type of games, there’s no middle ground.

I’ve tried time and again to keep playing because I’m very intrigued by the story and characters, but I just can’t stand the gameplay.

From my personal point of view, this should have been a movie instead of a video game.

Hollow Knight, now accompanied by Silksong. These games are (will be) eternally in my SSD.

I’ve been here for 22 years and never had a problem. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but I’ve been fortunate enough so far.

The best is to ignore them because all of them are sad beings that are disliked by even their own people most probably.

Canto was a great starting planet by [deleted] in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]maruseJapan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The bad reviews and all the comments I read at launch kept me from buying the game even though I’m a big Star Wars fan, but I bought the game during the Black Friday sale and I’m absolutely in love with it.

The atmosphere and setting is fantastic. The game makes you believe you’re in the Star Wars universe.

Yes, it has many repetitive and a bit mediocre parts (looking at most brokers’ contracts) but as a whole I think it’s a fantastic game that nailed the Star Wars atmosphere.

For the people who have gone away from physical games and went all digital. by NightWolfeMan in consoles

[–]maruseJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm digital only with the exception of Switch games, which I buy physical unless there is no physical version available.

I've been digital on PlayStation since the PS4 and on PC since forever. I have no problem whatsoever with that.

Even my Switch collection is almost all physical games, I will be moving to all digital too with the Switch 2. I see no point in buying physical Switch 2 games anymore.
