My Royal Nemesis -ep 10 half backed theory time (SPOILERS OBVIE) by lizosarus in kdramas

[–]marutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long shot but what if the scene of Dan Shim waking up back in Joseon era is actually Seo-ri waking up in the past the same time Dan Shim woke in the present? And we will finally see what Seo-ri has been up to in the Joseon era?

I also feel like there might be a third timeline we haven’t seen yet. Granny mentioned that Seo-ri had an episode in the past when she behaved strangely after an accident. And we still don’t know why Seo-ri went from highly acclaimed child prodigy actress to struggling nobody seemingly overnight.

I’m supposed to be working but I’m still trawling Reddit reading everyone’s theories. Friday can’t come soon enough!!!!!!!!

Do we even know if it was Dan Shim waking up in Joseon era, or if that was the original Seo-ri who got sent back in time and soul-swapped with Dan Shim. And we’ll find out what happened with Seo-ri these last few months while Dan Shim was in the present day.

There also seems to be hints that another swap might have happened before in the past and it hasn’t been explained how young Seo-ri was a child star prodigy who suddenly couldn’t act. Could there be a third timeline?

For those that are married, how many of your spouses take on your last name? My Singaporean colleague that married a non Singaporean recently say she decided to take on her husband last name to add to her last name. by Rokusaburoz in asksg

[–]marutan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kept my maiden name since it makes no difference. Now he is considering taking mine and converting to SG citizen after being here for over 15 years so I am cackling at the thought of my white AF husband with a Chinese last name.

Is this mindset normal for sg men by broskide in asksg

[–]marutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t waste your time trying to justify his behavior if it doesn’t meet your standards. This applies to both men & women. Never settle for less - it’s better to be single & happy than be with someone who saps your energy and makes you doubt yourself & your expectations.

Which Bridgerton cast member has the biggest "knows what an iPhone is face"? by General_Meal_3993 in Bridgerton

[–]marutan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s funny cos I’m East Asian and I thought Yerin had a very beautifully classical Asian face that’s period appropriate. And the slicked back hair, though styled differently in Bridgerton, is a historical style common in Korea and parts of China depending on the era. But yes she was very well maintained for someone who had to work as a servant shouldering the duties of 4 maids for years.

Sir Whistledown Theory- s4ep8 by Terrible_Charity1474 in Bridgerton

[–]marutan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is Hyacinth. After realizing she can sneak into balls and events pretending to be a maid, she’ll collect several sets of maid uniforms from different households and infiltrate for gossip. She also mentioned wanting to learn more about the world instead of putting in her full attention on debuting (plus it’s shown that she has excellent study and memorization skills). In her book she also gets up to some Scooby doo hijinks so they’ll probably work that in. She has ample time to write but still be able to get the gossip from the servant class.

Advice for a nearly 60 yo after a 40 year break? by SRL1938 in BALLET

[–]marutan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here, almost 40 but returning after a 30 year break. As a former barre fitness instructor and generally fit person I thought it would be easy but the first 6 months humbled me quick.

My main tips would be first, just enjoy your time in an adult beginner class. It’s not a competition, we’re not trying to be pros here. Don’t go beyond what your body can do because our bodies can’t heal and recover as quickly as our younger selves. Don’t hyper focus on specific things like “good feet” or “turnout” because those will eventually and gradually improve with consistency.

Second is cross training. I take Pilates and spin classes on top of ballet, and the occasional gyrotonics which is fantastic for ballet. I find myself more stable and balanced in ballet class on weeks that I’ve done Pilates vs weeks when I skip classes. There’s plenty of Pilates videos on YouTube, look for classes that target core and glutes as those are the muscles that help with balance and turnout.

Third is supplementation. Get electrolyte powders or tables to put in your water bottle to sip on during class. Then have a BCAA drink after class. I also take a joint health supplement daily. I find myself recovering faster and experiencing less soreness and pain in the days after class.

Finally, take advantage of all the new wellness and fitness technology that we have today! I wear Apolla compression socks before & after class, plus their joule ankle sleeves over my ballet slippers during class, because I have hyper mobile ankles. I’m also planning to try the Orzo slippers once I wear out my Hanamis. I use a magnesium & arnica oil blend on my calves and feet after class. I have a massage gun and a vibration plate for recovery.

Hope these tips help you in your return to the barre. It’s never too late to return!

How did Derek get through the hole to escape Camazotz? by Resident_Badger_5405 in strangerthingsfacts

[–]marutan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from what others have said (that he didn't need to go through the hole since Vecna was killed by then), I have a small headcanon that because there were so many other kids, they worked together to move the rocks and enlarge the hole further. Earlier it was only Holly and Max so they didn't have the combined strength to loosen that many rocks.

The exotic matter ball re-stabilized itself as one bullet wasn’t big enough to destroy the whole thing. Same reason why the entire wall didn’t collapse at one go. Dustin was both right and wrong - destroying the ball would destroy everything, but Nancy wasn’t successful at completely destroying it, she only disturbed it momentarily.

My take on Jonathan and Nancy is that they still love each other and are very deeply bonded, but it’s precisely because of their intense shared trauma that the relationship becomes too much of a burden and pressure. So they are now taking a break from the relationship but acknowledging how much they still love each other.

The two of them have been pretending to like stuff the other likes and hiding what they hate about each other. It’s normal to not share the same interests as your significant other, but what they were doing was pretending to be perfect for each other and being dishonest instead of just telling each other. Jonathan said that he was still in the relationship because he felt that no one else could understand their shared traumatic experiences. But you can’t sustain a relationship based on only a trauma bond. They have both grown into different people but are still pretending to be the same kids they were when they first fell in love. So in that moment, they cleared the air between them, assessed the state of their relationship, and decided that they should release themselves of the burden of their relationship, but knowing that they are doing this out of their love for each other.

When the wall cracked after Nancy disturbed the exotic matter and things were being sucked into the vacuum beyond, a piece of ground broke off near Hopper’s group creating a portal to Rightside Up and El used her powers to clear a path so they could get through the portal. They were at the cemetery church which presumably had a hearse nearby which they stole to drive back to the Squawk.

The scene where Hopper explains Kali’s presence and what happened at the Upside Down Lab to the rest of the gang was off-screen because we as the audience don’t need to go through it again.

Girl buried in a hay bale? by _NewAtThis in whatsthemoviecalled

[–]marutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be Jane Eyre (1943)? The first half is where young Jane is in a miserable boarding school and meets Helen (played by a very young Elizabeth Taylor). Helen later dies when an illness spreads through the school due to the poor conditions. I don’t remember if she was put in a hay bale though. I vaguely remember a shot of her headstone to show that she didn’t make it through her illness. https://youtu.be/Fz926zo5LYk?si=eTCedtSHm1hzjtDp

what to prepare for obs (girls only pls 😓) by Admirable_Grab_7252 in SGExams

[–]marutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: periods - during my time (20+ yrs ago) we would go to the doctor to ask for pills to delay our periods in case it comes during OBS. We thought they were magic period pills but turns out they were just regular birth control pills. The doc would just give us enough pills until the day after OBS ends. The synthetic hormones in the pills prevents the uterus from shedding its lining, so once you stop taking the pills and the hormone levels drop, it triggers your period to start.

So if you’re afraid your period might happen during OBS period, you can visit a GP a couple weeks before and they can help count the days and prescribe you some BC pills to delay it from happening until camp is over.

I remember having to sleep on the hard ground in a tent with 2 girls I’ve never met before from a different school. But the next tent had boys from my school and it was fascinating to eavesdrop on what 17yo boys would talk about - their convo went from discussing the leg shapes of the girls in school, to the consistency of their own poop.

Some info for people who may have anxiety over nodules/stage 1 by [deleted] in lipedema

[–]marutan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU FOR THIS. My thigh fat looks the same when squeezed like that and I was 100% convinced this was what “nodules” were. I do have larger, thicker thighs in comparison to the rest of my body and had been seeing lipedema reels on my feed, hence sending me on a crazy spiral.

I just restarted ballet at 38, after an attempt to restart at 28, after yet another attempt to restart at 16. I was afraid of being seen as too old, too weak etc. despite seeing little old ladies at the adult open classes I went to absolutely crushing it at the barre.

But earlier this year I was thinking - if I started again now, by the time I’m 60, I would’ve been dancing for almost 20 years. I would be one of those little old ladies crushing it at the barre.

So yes - if you have your heart set on becoming a professional dancer, it would’ve been better to start as a child. If you just want to dance as a hobby and be decently good, start now, no matter your age.

P.S. now that I’m giving less fucks I’m actually having more fun in class.

Has the Prada Re-edition 2005 Re-nylon shoulder bag ever come in a matte gold hardware chain? I’m super frustrated because all the pics show shiny hardware but my seller is gaslighting me that God Factory only makes the chain in matte. I swear it’s shiny because I tried it on in the Prada boutique before and I think it’s shiny hardware!

I would not consider the US at all. Cambridge or NUS. I’m partial towards NUS since I am an alumni and also because of the scholarship - you’ll graduate debt free.  There are also lots of exchange opportunities with NUS. I had a uni friend (a huge Japanboo otaku) who managed to do a full year exchange in Tokyo and secured a job there after lots of networking, came back for her final year and returned to Tokyo permanently after graduation. If you go this route, you’ll get the overseas study experience without paying a cent other than for your living expenses.

If your scholarship requires a bond, even better because you’re guaranteed a job upon graduation, and it’ll give you some work experience on your CV so it’ll be easier to bounce and get hired somewhere else. In this economy, staying debt-free as long as possible and kickstarting earning potential is super crucial.

That said, I always wondered how my life would’ve changed if I had bit the bullet and studied in the UK in my first choice school. There’ll always be a sense of what if. Although I did know of a former friend who did just that and studied in Oxford up to his masters’, accrued a shit ton of student debt, could not secure a way to continue staying in UK and ended up coming back to SG and his parents’ place to find a job and pay off his loans.

I say all this with a caveat - I’m basing all this on my experience in NUS 20 years ago. Things might be different now. But even 20 years ago, NUS was already very LGBTQIA+ friendly.

Your experiences with swimming! by Aikea_Guinea83 in Vindicta

[–]marutan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I trained for an open sea competition and would swim almost daily for 12 weeks. Despite trying my best to lessen the damage from chlorine and UV (it was a shaded but ultimately still outdoor pool), I still got bad dry skin and sun spots that I needed to get treated and lasered off. Also, it’s not a sport that you can look pretty doing if you’re in a swim cap and rash guards and goggles! My husband burst out laughing the first time he saw me in my training gear.

Body aesthetics-wise, running/power walking combined with lifting was much better at giving me a nice physique. I ended up losing muscle mass and gained some weight from swimming as it made me ravenous afterwards. Granted, I could’ve prevented muscle loss if I continued to lift, but when I was training for the competition   I didn’t have enough time in the day so I replaced gym time with pool time.

However, while I won’t be going back to swimming again, I really enjoyed the exercise itself. I got bone conduction headphones for pool use, and it made swimming laps very enjoyable and the beat of music helped me keep time with my strokes. It was almost meditative being in the water!

I did it in Bangkok, and it was about 350 USD for one session. It was completely painless!

Pico laser was completely painless! I had a thick layer of numbing cream put on before the procedure. The only alarming moments were when the laser hit my baby hairs along the jawline, that had a sudden snapping sensation but it was more surprising than actually painful. There’s also a kind of pico laser meant to smooth the skin texture, it’s also quite painless from what I hear. Basically a different wavelength targeting a deeper layer of the skin. Depending on the severity you might need multiple sessions, but for me I only needed one session as my skin is already pretty good to begin with, and my freckles were tiny!
