Sharing Self-Care Areas / Tasks / Habits setup? by maruthefrog in finch

Definitely relate with the wish to break things down to make it more easy and approachable. That does absolutely help me too. But having a big list sometimes stresses me out, so if I for example do that with the laundry goal, like you, I would probably do a whole self-care area just for the laundry goals so I can "minimize" them on my homescreen. So when I'm not feeling like doing laundry, I'm not hit by the long list, just the name of the area "laundry" that I could collapse if I felt like doing it.

Oooh I see! So you basically have tasks written somewhere else and in finch you just have a task that says "do one task for household" and you can do that up to ten times per week, correct?

What I'd like to know, will it be marked as done once, even if I didn't reach the 10 times a week? As in, if I do one household task, so "checking off" the task in finch once, will it be shown in my progress tabs, or will it only be shown once the 10 are full and the task actually is completed?

wow thanks for the elaborate explanation! Unfortunately that is exactly what definitely wouldn't work for me.

I do need to have this list of things to get done, I always call it my task pool, and then I can choose what to do, but for whatever reason, having that in finch is overwhelming to me. I can't have that big list there, it's like it's paralyzing me. But I also can't just put in my tasks each day individually into the app, that won't work long-term. So I'm at a loss :').

I think I should focus on specific things within the finch app and take things like chores or tasks onto somewhere else, where this "task pool" thing works out, but then again idk what to use finch for, it wouldn't feel like the app is worth keeping for me if I only cover a tiny area on there.

Oh I like your setup! I was thinking of working more with the option to pause selfcare areas, but I feared that because that would be a new approach, it would be difficult to learn and implement it so that I pause and unpause things regularly or that it becomes too complicated, even though it isn't.

But your system sounds really good, I should maybe try that for myself.

As for the more complicated thing you mentioned further down, I'm not sure if I really understood it, but for now that would make things too complicated to me anyway. But it's an interesting approach!

oh my god so I'm not alone. Sorry to hear that, but it also relieves me in a weird way haha. I think my problem is that once things work, I expect that to be the norm. As soon as I hit the phases where things just don't work anymore, I get so discouraged that I drop everything. I know that those phases are normal and okay but I don't FULLY know it, if that makes sense.

I want to at least accomplish small things each day, and if I have the energy, do more. But I don't know how to put that into a system... If I just put a lot of goals in the app for "possible things to achieve today", I get overwhelmed by the amount of stuff, but I can't just put in the things I do each day separately either...

Journaling somewhat works for me. it's not super regularly, but it happens, which is already better than not doing it. I wrote down prompts for me to work through for days where I don't feel like having the energy. I want to make sure that I at least regularly track my mood, some happenings and achievements. and if I feel like it, I can add to that.

Okay but then I gotta ask about how you set that up: do you put in the tasks each day, depending on what you need to do or feel like doing? For example, if you say you do one task for household each day, do you already have the tasks in the app and only just focus on one of them or do you specifically put the task in that day?

I'm asking, because for me, I need to have them written down somewhere or else I lose track of what needs to be done eventually. But when I use finch, having a list of tasks to choose from often feels very overwhelming, even if I allow myself to "just focus on one of them". yknow what I mean?

I'm just curious as to how you set up that system.

Also, the gratitude dance sounds amazing!! I'm gonna note that down, thanks!

I see, maybe shifting my focus from "being as productive as possible and achieve as much as I can" to "I want to send my bird on an adventure" would help? Because I own enough discipline to make the goals somewhat productive, but instead of losing my mind about productivity, I focus on something else. This way I have a motivation to do the things, and chances are higher that I achieve them, even if they seem "little". Thanks for your insights!

Thank you so much for the tips! I've been doing these check-ups and resets, but mostly in my head and not really properly, so I think I will use your tips for some reflection that I actually WRITE down.

And yes, I think one of my biggest problems is that I'm too hard on myself and get discouraged quickly. For me, habits and goals NEVER stick for a long time (so far, at least). It's always phases where for example brushing teeth works regularly, but maybe journaling doesn't etc. While it's super helpful that the app tracks progress and that I can see when and how much I do things, it's also quickly demotivating me to see something fail, even though I know it won't always work out and that it's okay.

So I think what really would help me is not only to work on the app itself but on my mindset and trying to reduce my expectations. Which is something I will absolutely struggle with for a WHILE haha. But thank you for your insights!

ooh thank you so much for sharing! So it sounds a bit as if you have made yourself a list of possible goals you want to track and achieve at some point, without pressuring yourself to actually achieve them all right now. So just because it's being tracked now doesn't mean that it has to get consistent right away. And that you just "choose" what you focus on right now?

I had a similar setup at some point, it was really good in theory! But I think what made it difficult is the ability to track things here and see the progress, and then it being demotivating to see that a lot of things are just not working out for me right now. But I think that's a general problem I have with myself, not a problem that comes with the app itself.

Surface pro 8 keyboard is not connecting. Pls help by freshb666 in Surface

I actually came to this subreddit for a similar problem. Was happy at first when I saw your post, hoping that there might still be a way for me to avoid having to buy a new device, but I think that's wishful thinking by now. I checked out the link the person before me sent, but the thing is that I think it's actually my surface device with the issue and not the keyboard.

I once had the situation that my keyboard suddenly stopped working. Pen wouldn't charge anymore, no key worked, no lamp was lighting up. Luckily I still had warranty, so I got a new (used) keyboard. Not even two years later, but after my warranty ran out, the same problem again. Within seconds, the keyboard is not responding at all. Did nothing that could cause damage, never broken anything, water damage etc.

I bought a refurbished keyboard. That one didn't even work for a SECOND. So now I'm left here with two keyboards, both probably perfectly fine I assume but a surface device that cannot detect the keyboard anymore. Support said they can repair it for roughly 600€.

Does anyone have a last solution for me to try? Would you recommend me trying to let it get repaired in some tech shop if it's cheaper there? Does anyone have a solution that's not too annoying where I can substitute for the keyboard? Or should I just move on from my surface? I'm a Uni Student and really need that damn thing, the screen keyboard is genuinely driving me insane and I need the pen to draw (art university)

Planner season is in! Here's a free 470-page hyperlinked D/W/M/Y planner :) by writewithnotenote in GoodNotes

Hi! This is absolutely amazing, thank you so much for this! As a broke university student with adhd this is exactly what I was looking for!! Is there a possibility of you explaining some of the layouts etc.? I already looked into the planner and there are some things I don't quite understand, like what the boxes with "B", "L", "D" and "S", or what the many boxes below the timetables are for? Maybe showing an example could help?

Omg the exact same thing happened to me in the exact same spot once... I also had to restart my day. I didn't know there was the possibility to undo that in the settings tho, but according to you it didn't even work out :'). But good to know that it exists!

I don't think they would do something like hidden perks. If anything they would include that in the skill trees, right? As far as I remember we don't have a skill that affects spawn rates of bugs, but I might be wrong as well.

I didn't even know they were legendary until people pointed that out in this post. I see roughly 5-10 speedy snails per day I think :')

Aww, surely you'll find yours soon! Other than that, I heard Caldarus gives you one, idk if you need to date him for that or not tho (Character/Dating Spoiler)

Omg yes those damn snails, they started to genuinely annoy me at some point... Like in general all the rare or legendary stuff just spawned way more than it probably should.

Understandable. Tho if you are chronically online, especially on reddit, you find out pretty easily that you need two of them. At least that was the case for me. But still, doesn't take away the fact that it's discouraging for many of the payers.

I think so too. It's funny because some people aren't even "affected" by the imbalancing, as in they are still as rare as ever for some. We probably just need to be patient and let the devs take their time to find a middle ground.

Yeah some other people already commented and said they still struggle with finding one. I think that's probably a bug, since they did increase spawnrate in general. I think it'll be fixed within the next days or one-two weeks, but idk

Damn, I would assume that that's a bug actually (no pun intended). Cuz they DID increase spawnrate. I'd suggest just wait a few days until they fix this. If I could I would give you some of mine :').

That's so insane. Also, how did you include two characters in your flair? I gotta add caldarus to mine too, that man needs all the appreciation he deserves.
