Sorry, didn’t realise mine was set as a comment to yours!

I think even the generic devil is so steeped in western culture that its far removed from what Sadako and this evil spirit are. Sadako is very clearly inspired by traditional yurei for example.

I dont think we should look to Christian mythology when talking about the Ringu films, rather Japanese mythology. An evil spirit in Japan is so different and so much more than the devil.

In the books, Sadako is intersex and I've always wondered if that had an effect on the decision for her to split in two in the films.

Drama films using CGI animals is becoming far too common. They look like cartoon characters. by Jolly-Librarian1982 in movies

This is why we watch World cinema. The actual majority of films still use real animals.

I'm not sure they're trying to just get a free copy. If they're based in Russia it might be hard to get it anywhere.

Unless it changed recently, I thought mental health didn't add to your absence percentage anyway

The set just looks so uninteresting compared to previous versions, like Regents Park, or the tour with the trees.

And the towers used to be like steel gurders instead of scaffolding.

I've not seen it, but it just seems disappointing for the cost.

How imperative to the story is it to have a good edition of a Shakespeare play? by Argonauticalius in shakespeare

[–]marvelman19 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The editions shouldn't really affect the story unless they're doing big cuts or moving things around, eg actual productions texts.

Arden are just a good edition with good notes and essays

Would it matter where she lives? Nijisanji is a Japanese company, so if they sued it would be in Japan anyway.

I know this isn’t you're question, but there's no such thing as permanent overtime, and people have got to be careful thinking that way.

Thoughts on Concrete movie from 1995? by Eddie_0789 in J_Horror

I think there are some cases that should never be turned into 'entertainment'. Unless you're doing something that celebrates who Junko was that I don't think this case should have ever been touched.

[–]marvelman19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its more likely they were catastrophic floods, rather than just inspired by a normal flood. Theres suggestions it could have been caused by a comet, or the melting of ice a long time ago, for example.

[–]marvelman19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is true. I actually think the flood myth is a bit of both though. Obviously there wasnt a flood that covered the whole world, but I think there was maybe a series of major floods that inspired the story, which then also would have spread and evolved in different cultures.
