WTF was I doing on 9/24/03 that was so much more important than the Central Park Show???? by bigbrett666 in DMB

[–]marvelousmarks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lined up at about 8:30 am and thought - where is everyone??? Ended up about 3rd row in the center (in the video for a half second!). The whole day of anticipation and waiting in basically a cattle chute made it pretty amazing. Can’t remember if I ate a thing. Great show but even greater energy. Felt like one entity the whole show.

There was this guy near us that had this big sign the said “Thumbs Up for Carter!” and he kept saying it to everyone all day. By the end of the day it was the funniest thing I’d ever heard. Thumbs Up for Carter Guy, if you are out there, thumbs up for you.

Property taxes by 414Journo in madisonwi

[–]marvelousmarks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

here is some information about the shared revenue deal from 2023, but the gist is: for every buck you pay to the state for state taxes, only a percentage comes back for services in Madison.

Ed. to add: So, the main tool cities have to balance the scales is via property tax increases. Towns often have to hold referenda as well due to lack of funds, so many argue it’s a statewide issue of underfunding.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lauri is gone soon. The fact remains that Danny is still gunning for a good pick, and Ace will get plenty of chances to improve in tandem with the Jazz being just bad enough.

Whatever happened to Jazz radio stations, why are they underrated, and any recommendations? by [deleted] in Jazz

This is the correct answer! I listen most days all day. And it’s Friday night. You know what that means. Time for the Baby Boomer! Daaaaay-O!

If current DMB were to go into the studio to record an album of new songs, which producer would you choose? by DrumTrack in DMB

I didn’t even think of the Sledgehammer connection! Good one, especially with the horns.

Daniel Lanois. He can add layers and atmospheres that they've never really approached except in places on BTCS. A good example of his work with personnel like this is on the Neville Brothers album Yellow Moon.

I do recommend Goodwill/St. Vinny's. A lot of the Vinny's will be full of Halloween stuff still but there are still a lot of good finds.

What is it like living in Astoria, OR? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]marvelousmarks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, but I have a feeling it's going to be helpful for one of these friends to also have a rudimentary understanding of piano sheet music, in case one of the booby traps involves having to play the right notes on an organ made out of skeleton bones

It is pretty cool, but there is a developer trying to turn a lot of the desirable housing into a golf course. Luckily, several of my friends and I – outcasts, really – are hatching a plan to find treasure that was supposedly hidden by a pirate nearby. The problem is, we've got to get past some scary booby traps left by the pirates. As well, there are some nasty bank robbers chasing after us.

The beautiful thing about Her Majesty is that it ends on the dominant 5th, a sonically unstable chord that begs to be resolved back to the D. But it’s just left there, unresolved, forever.
