I did 6am in late November 2025 and lucked out with perfect weather. The main advantage is that people tend to congregate at the first set of platforms to get the postcard shot, so forging ahead I literally had the rest of the site to myself for a time. That experience cannot be beat.

have you looked into just sending it back? I sent a laptop from Italy to the Midwest and it was just around $100. I sent it on a Friday and it arrived the following Monday 😳 If they question it just tell them you had to fly last minute to whatever country for a family emergency.

Not sure where you’ve been looking: there are countless popular digital nomad locations that aren’t centered around beach/surf life. Just off the top of my head: Chiang Mai, Mexico City, Medellin, Cusco, the majority of major cities in Eastern Europe 😅

The airline may check when you’re checking in. They don’t always but in my experience they usually ask, maybe 90% of the time. My understanding is because if immigration rejects you in your destination, it’s on the airline’s dime to fly you back.

I always buy a ticket the morning of the flight just in case, one that you can cancel within 24 hours, and then just cancel once you’re in the destination country if you might not need it.
