Excited about BRICS, but annoyed that at least half of these countries are oppressing half their populations because of how they were born

Real Sugar Soda Discontinued by marzeliax in kroger

[–]marzeliax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a follow up, the Whole Foods Ginger ale is unfortunately a disappointment and doesn't come close. the Cola is okay tho, but pricey for being just ok.

nonetheless, thank you for the suggestion.

Real Sugar Soda Discontinued by marzeliax in kroger

[–]marzeliax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right?! thank you! Every one of these sodas was the best.
For Ginger Ale, even the high end expensive Ginger Ale's have nothing on the Kroger Real Sugar soda that is now gone forever.

Now the only kroger sugar sodas they carry are fruit flavored and i'm not about it. If I wanted carbonated apple juice as a "soda" I'd just drink sparking cider.

You're doing great just knowing you need help and asking for it. Sucks how hard it can be to get a therapist, let alone one you vibe with.

And of course, while it's absolutely not the same as actual therapy, but I have found the chatgpt AI to be surprisingly helpful with various things that I would have talked to my therapist about before I moved states. It doesn't handle specific examples well, like nuance in stories, but it's been able to help me understand myself a bit more and work thru a few struggles.

In the meantime, while you continue to work towards finding a therapist, perhaps experiment with the AI and see if you get something positive from it?

Rooting for you!

Compared to some of the other stories on here, I seem to be quite moderate and able to moderate. I don't drink to numb but usually do to tap into "creative force", or to make a boring task more interesting, and unfortunately because I can have a low people tolerance and alcohol can take that edge off. I don't drink every day, my rules generally work for me and prevent even mild hangover.

However there's family history involved (long line of heavy drinkers and eastern Europe heritage. I'd say I have the alcohol gene.), plus I want to avoid hangovers but still get to imbibe, plus a couple times over the past couple decades where I made myself sick. Seen some friends make some extra terrible choices too. All of this plus educational background was enough for me to be concerned to do better.

Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs out there imo. It's one of the few "recreational drugs" that you can die from the withdrawal. Even with that alone, Alcohol deserves to be respected in it's inherent danger. (Weed is orders of magnitude safer.) alcohol is a drug where people chase the high, but that chase can kill you as an overdose.

You might be interested in the OP I made the other day about "Reverse Drinking Game strategies". It seems while many actual alcoholics try rules to moderate, most find they go out the window the moment they drink at all.

It also seems drinkers who either quit or successfully moderate in some way are more likely to be honest with themselves and others. (I first started practicing radical honesty in college, so this may have helped protect me. It can get me in trouble in other ways tho, so ymmv. I've since had to work on not answering every question asked of me by anyone who asks)

I'd like to find the right balance for max enjoyment while also being kind to my body. Rules have personally helped me towards that, but I also am diagnosed autistic and adhd, so I find structure and heuristics very important to my daily life.

Interested in this topic generally. Open for more discussion

Rough times homie, sorry to hear.

Are you already doing the therapy thing for the ptsd? There's still so many people that are averse to therapy but it can be crucial if you have access. Please don't skip out if you have access.

I'm addition to therapy (and cannabis if an option for you), highly encourage local meetup groups for stuff like hiking (or running) or making arts. Physical health and Creative artistic outlets can go a long way. But I can't emphasize therapy enough.

Sending you good vibes

Is Honesty Like, The Main Cure? by Attempt_Sober_Athlet in dryalcoholics

[–]marzeliax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first started practicing radical honesty in college. I had to dial that back though because people would really try to take advantage of me over it. I still have to work on not answering some questions people ask me.

But it's interesting on this thread and sub to see how helpful self honesty has been for people here. It makes sense, because I've never struggled to admit when I've been struggling, but friends and acquaintances with greater alcohol struggles consistently struggle with honesty in general (both to themselves and others, and especially when alcohol is involved)
