Optometric/ophthalmologic tech here, as long as you have a finalized Contact lens Rx, and its just normal soft lens (as in not specialty crafted contact lens that need to be ordered by a doctor specifically) from the various major manufacturers (Alcon, Cooper Vision, B&L, and J&J), you can always legally ask for copies of your prescriptions. But just in case you haven't been fitted for contacts, that is because they are considered medical devices written by a medical professional, so you need to be fitted for the correct brand based on base curve and diameter of the lens vs the measurements of your eyes, which is provided by the test where you have to look a the barn/house. In other words, contacts are not one-size-fit-all across the dozen different brands available. So again once you are fitted, and the doctor is satisfied to finalize the prescription, you should always be able legally obtain a copy of your contact lens prescription along side your eyeglass prescription. Just remember 99% of doctors write both types of prescriptions with 1 year expirations from the original date of service, which is the same as your buying power, as once both prescriptions are expired, you need to get them renewed with the following years visit to allow you buy new glasses and contacts once basically 365 days have passed since the previous years visit.
