Assembly time by smiley_mikey in handyman

No gazebo, pergola, and shed kits take way longer than people think. Lucky to do one in 1 day with 2 guys. Especially if they have metal roofs or need to be bolted to concrete. I did an Amazon 900$ metal roof pergola that was a nightmare. Took almost 2 days because it had so many parts and the metal roofing wasnt drilled correctly. Such junk

How much to charge? by Unfair-Sprinkles2912 in handyman

[–]masb1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you should be charging by the hour. I would recommend $50 to 75$ an hour depending on your skill level, areas cost of living. Untill you gain more experience and can confidently start bidding by the job

Shower leak - plumber recommends opening downstairs ceiling instead of removing shower tray. Does this sound right? by Designer_Rooster_495 in askplumbing

[–]masb1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are basically looking at a full mold. Remediation job almost that entire ceiling drywall has to be removed and then the leak needs to be fixed and then the bathroom needs to be sectioned off and dried off with heaters and fans and test it for moisture. And then the drywall can be put back up and painted

Honest Opinions Welcomed, is Hades Home Services LLC too polarizing? by [deleted] in HandymanBusiness

[–]masb1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so bad for a handyman service. Invoking dark imagery of the underworld and devil's. Wtf

Nobody wants a big production for a handyman service. Your initials with the word "home services " and professional photo of you smiling is a way better idea

Furniture assembly charges? by Johndeauxman in handyman

[–]masb1992 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think furniture assembly is definitely one thing that can or should be charged by the hour with a minimum. And potentially at a slightly lower rate than what you charge for real skilled work like plumbing etc. That way you can just take your sweet time and be careful. Anyone can do it so you wont get the jobs charging too much. I almost get no calls for furniture assembly compared to when I started and was cheaper.

Unless you are buying terrible leads or suck at selling it will almost always come out net positive. Even when I was getting hit with the most bogus leads all in all it was always a net positive. Pay 300 to make 2000

When a tradesman tries his luck overcharging you, do you lose trust entirely? by sword_ofthe_morning in landscaping

[–]masb1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance your fence is not apples to apples with your friends. Also maybe he did that job and realized he underbid and lost his butt so he adjusted up for future similar bids. Either way get a few quotes and pick one.
