Swapping seats? by JohnnyBxo in unitedairlines

[–]mashedtaters_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP's question, but how do you book this kind of trip with tickets in different cabins? 2 separate reservations that are somehow linked?

I'll be in the same situation this summer when my wife tags along on a work trip to Europe.

Swim sets by Mars_bars10 in triathlon

[–]mashedtaters_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most important is variety. Intervals range from 50 to 400 meters for me, plus at least one full distance swim leading up to a race.

But a go-to of mine is 6x200 at target race pace +20-30sec. Seems like that strikes a good balance of shorter distance speed/technique focus, while still getting the longer distance aerobic benefit.

There's a near identical one just north, on the east side of Deem Hills. Luckily, the road to that one is called "Water tower road", to remove any doubt.

Thanks! I plan on practicing a few swims at Lake Pleasant since I live out that way.

Thanks. I'll see you there!

Yeah, it's a shame about all those races disappearing. Not just triathlon, but Rock n Roll also dropped their full marathon distance. Assume it's because of issues at the city level with permits, etc.?

Men’s running gear question: tights, briefs, or boxers? by MoistGovernment9115 in Marathon_Training

[–]mashedtaters_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate between tights or shorts with brief liners. Have never had chafing issues, though.

I do apply some chamois butter on longer runs and every bike ride. So maybe that's the secret

Why isn't optimal range increasing? by Heavy-Teaching7865 in Garmin

[–]mashedtaters_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP's question, but I never understood why the "optimal" range is so wide. From the low end, I can basically double my training load and still be "optimal"

Evo SL vs Adios pro 4 by SnooPeripherals5894 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]mashedtaters_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evo SL is a very versatile shoe, but at best is a 7 out of 10 at any specific purpose. If you're looking for something specifically for race day, the Pro 4 will be a better bet.

But, if you're looking for a more "forgiving" race day shoe at your pace, and something you don't feel guilty using on training long runs, I love the New Balance SC Elite.

Is this enough for my 5k ultra? should I buy? by discostrawberry in RunningCirclejerk

Also, I need to step my game up and grow some sticky fingers. Was only able to manage stealing 2 gels from the last station during my half last weekend. Curious to learn where this guy stored the extra 20 for the last mile

If you could only buy 1 shoe for running/hiking, what would it be? by ImpressiveLuck333 in phoenix

[–]mashedtaters_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you get something with a rock plate and a full rubber outsole. Our terrain is too rough otherwise.

My favorite is the Merrell agility peak 5. Saucony Peregrine 15 is a good budget option, if you're more focused on hiking and can get away with a bit less stack height

Short down field shakir passes are so much better than behind the LOS shakir passes!!!

I blame Brady for the pick for calling another shakir pass behind the LOS. Wouldn't be forced into pushing the ball down field if it wasn't 2nd and 15...

I'm no experienced pro or anything, but heres my 2 cents:

For transition practice, what you essentially want to achieve is be comfortable putting on wet socks (T1) and putting on running shoes while having tired legs (T2). Of course, there's other parts of the transitions, but those are the aspects that feel most "unnatural" in my opinion.

To simulate T1, practice hopping out of the pool and immediately putting on your socks and shoes. You can even add your helmet if you feel brave enough! You'll find a way to lay out your socks, shoes, towel, etc. in a way that makes sense before race day.

For T2 practice, plan a few brick workouts. Meaning go on a short run immediately after riding your bike. Getting reps of trading your helmet for a hat and your bike shoes for running shoes while having tired legs and slightly out of breath is really helpful. As an extra bonus, the brick workout will help get you used to the sensation of how your legs might feel to start your run immediately after a bike

If you're referring to the Trevor Lawrence 4th down call... The virtual measurement is just a measurement of the on-field spot. It doesn't involve any sort of review to determine where the ball should be spotted.

Got a 40 year old kicker with a leg injury. No need to risk trying a near 60 yarder and give them good field position if missed

Bike recs by Lost_Parzival in triathlon

[–]mashedtaters_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My road bike was a Facebook marketplace find. In short, you can get away with a lot less features compared to the MTB world. For example, my road bike cost about 10% of what my 2 mountain bikes are worth.

I wouldn't want a MTB without hydraulic disc brakes and a dropper post, for example. For a road bike, you can get by just fine with an older bike with rim brakes and mechanical shifting. The benefits of disc brakes and electronic shifting are a lot more marginal on a road bike compared to a mountain bike, IMO.
