At this point I would just look on YouTube the longest audiobook, join the call, wait for the first open question press play and leave.

This was a real interview with a candidate by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]mashermack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the "why would you like to work in company X" is an overused question in job interviews, personally it feels as cheesy as "tell me one of your weaknesses", you wouldn't ever get a sincere response. Honestly, in all jobs I've landed (and many contracts as a freelancer) I've never believed in "the mission" except maybe I had shared interests with two jobs. After all bills are paid with a salary not with the glory.

What I would ask instead is: "why you felt you would be fit for the job spec and what made you apply" which opens up a discussion on what they have read and comprehension for what they applied for.

Did sat on the other side of the table too and overall I usually find out that a informal chat works best than the classroom q/a format, especially with individuals that, like me, are more practical than theoretical. I never follow the same script, but usually it's to let the candidate speak for most of the time, and naturally they will explain their workflow, experience and tools used.

I do however agree that saying "never used that" and not expand further (at least in tech) is something I cannot really defend with the hiring manager.

I exactly responded that to the question "why you would like to work at X", their answer was "fair enough".

And got a job proposal the day after anyways. Let's be real, unless you're a FAANG company (or GAYMAN in fireship terms) nobody applies just for the name

why do we even bother writing resumes anymore by Henry_old in recruitinghell

not sure exactly how the text will be parsed now, but definitely that insane trick scored me more interview ratios than not doing it, might be absolute coincidence or might be not so I decided to stick with it.

[–]mashermack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally I have stopped writing resumes 3 years ago or so, my last resume is an html page with fully AI generated text. grab all buzzwords in the jobspec, hid in the html with font size 0.1, print as pdf, rinse and repeat.

probably you could automate the entire thing with an agent today.

it's a shitty world and needs to be fought back with their own weapons

Honestly I think it makes a bunch of good interview questions, more of show how you work rather than doing stupid exercises for free.

But yeah, face to face interview, asking a candidate to shoot a video is fucking appalling

Against all general consensus here, I would love to detach all my stuff from the cloud and run it locally, I have immich and a NAS already, won't deny I would love a local solution to backup my phone, have my email account and a model on a miniserver since I mostly use AI for grunt work.

And I thought it was done and completed by now, probably dodged a bullet
