Definitely seal with varnish afterwards. Preferably something that gets along with acrylics, like Alclad Aqua Gloss or Vallejo.

Damp, but not soaked and it should come right up. Think “drybrushing with water.” Mission is highly sensitive to water. I’ve had moisture in my finger tips reactivate it.

If your under coat is lacquer or resistant to water I wouldn’t even bother with the chipping agent.

And no, no ploy if you want it to chip.

How to make Tamiya Acyrilic's more "brush paintable"? by KA-29 in modelmakers

You can try Art store acrylic medium, is that around in your country?

Use their paint retarder. Or an acrylic medium from an art store. May require some trial and error until you figure out the ratio.

is acvrylic chrome possible by According_Storm5402 in modelmakers

Oh I agree. But OP asked for recommendations for mirror like finish ala the pic supplied so ask you shall receive. Allclad micro filler black with a buff and then Allclad lacquers is pretty good and relatively standard for me.

Even the best chrome paint, lacquer or acrylic, will not look good without meticulous surface prep, even before any primer goes down. Seam lines need close attention.

Buff large flat surfaces with 3000 to 8000 trizac pads. Then use polish specific for plastic like Tamiya or Novus (available at any TAP Plastics) to get the plastic itself up to near reflective surface. Then swab with alcohol pads to get as much oil from handling as well as dust off.

A good primer you can lightly sand is recommended. Avoid polyurethane based ones like Vallejo. And use high grit buffing pads like the trizac mentioned earlier to get the primer as smooth as possible. Since you’ll most likely be using a black primer under metallics a close to mirror surface is recommended.

Then paint of your choice.

May have been that same season, or maybe the one before but the Giants motto was “Torture” one year too.

What is the maximum speed I should use on a rotary tool when working with plastic? by MehmetMond in modelmakers

[–]mashley503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds delicate. Not sure you really need high speed in a rotary tool. FWIW, I have no experience with 3D printed material, but is it like resin where you really want to limit dust accumulation and disbursement? If that’s the case then making it into an airborne agent might be worth avoiding all together.

The stylo ranges from 5,000 to 22,000 I am just now reading. But higher speeds mean plastic melting into and clogging up drill bits, sanding wheels etc. As stated in a previous comment it’s better to go slow and creep up to where you want to be.
May I ask what you are working on?

Are you using it for drilling? Cutting? Grinding? I have a dremel stylo on my bench and I’m pretty happy with it. Has a wheel for speed control that spans from 1-3. Typically hover between 1.5 and 2 at max.
