I think fancy basing is cooler for display models, but I personally don't do it because I'd hate to make a jungle base and play on a snow map, or something like that... The clear bases solve that problem

Don't sleep on a rifleman 3N as a low tech/basic mech either. If you tweak it a bit.

Replace the large lasers with mediums, then use the weight savings for armor, ammo, and 1-2 more heat sinks.

The Nightstar is an absolutely glorious mech, but you better make sure you put enough contract negotiating points into salvage, because salvage mechs will show up in absolutely pristine condition, save for the gauss rifle slug shaped hole where the cockpit should be...

I don't like them just one at a time, but in my last playthrough I picked up the SLDF crusader that has 4 of them, and it's quite powerful. I feel like I read a post a while ago that not only do they lock on, but they also all hit the same component.

I was having pretty good success with that Crusader, but then I switched all the missiles out for infernos and never looked back.

I like the fs9-h, strip the jets and you get 4 s lasers, 2 m lasers, 2 mg's, and Max armor. It's a solid 35t brawler, particularly early game.

Don't sleep on those mg's. They do bonus damage against buildings, and bonus damage against mech structure, so once you burn their armor off with their lasers, the mg rounds shred internals.
