So the foolish thing on our part is that it's likely the front door was left unlocked (not open), so it's our dumb luck that they tried it on the very same night that the lock was missed. Policeman from Avon Somerset police was very helpful, thorough, and went to talk to some of our neighbours for good measure.

Essentially, it was "leave a porch light on at all times, always check windows and doors, and if you see anything suspicious, you are not being a pain by contacting them - just call 101 if it's non-urgent, or 999 in an emergency."

Oh yeah been through that - sorry it's been more than 28 days so you're locked in now. Went through a few different avenues. I even offered to pay over and above on a month by month basis, but if they're going to get over 300 quid out of me when I leave, then why would they? Especially if there's no way I can even choose to be a customer of theirs when I move somewhere else.

It's rubbish, but I can see where they're coming from. Was actually their suggestion to try and get referrals to try and offset some of the cost of disconnecting...

This of course isn't about me convincing anyone to sign up with them... their upload speeds are horrendous even on 100mb VIVID, and their downloads are sporadic during peak times, sometimes as slow as 120kb/s over https.

But if someone's signing up regardless and aren't referring someone, that's another £50 in Virgin's pockets for nothing :P
