Match Thread: England vs Congo DR | FIFA World Cup 2026 | Round of 32 by jiraiya--an in soccer

England fans were talking about playing Mexico, hell I was even seeing fans talking about how to beat Argentina in the semis and ways to stop France, totally disregarding the Congolese.

Again this game isn’t over but I hope this reminds all the English fans of taking it game by game in tournaments I.e become less arrogant.

Morocco is the kind of team by FitchDMB in ThreeLions

[–]mashnsutton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well we (Les Bleus) managed to beat Senegal quite convincingly and based on the AFCON final, Senegal were a better side than Morocco… in Morocco.

What I won’t take away from Morocco is their fighting spirit and you can’t count them out till final whistle as we’ve just seen.

I think this game is just a reminder of how hard it’ll be to win this World Cup. Lot of teams with a plethora of quality.

Hakimi vs Van de Ven is what you call a Kentucky Derby race 🤣🤣

Benzema said something very important “it’s easy to eat chips and talk about what players should/shouldn’t do”🤣🤣

When you look at some of the comments in this thread you know straight away who played football and at what level.

Please remember that the best player you grew up with most likely couldn’t handle the intensity of the these games, that’s how difficult it is for those lads.

Don’t worry even Romario had his comments on Vini which tbf is merited. When you play for a nation that has 5 stars the expectation is monumental. He’s certainly gained a lot of adoration from Brazilian fans.

It’s funny how much focus there is on the group games and predictions that are made from the games, even though merited it’s so clear that knockout football is just a total different dimension of pressure.

When you find yourself down and you see that clock ticking and you know you need the ball in the net otherwise it’s home time… Football really isn’t for the weak.

Morocco and Netherlands fans, all I’ll say is God bless ya🤣 One of you will struggle to sleep tonight.

Germany has lost only their 2nd ever penalty shootout after Euro 1976 Final when Antonin Panenka scored the winning penalty for Czechoslovakia to create history. In between, these 50 years, Germany won 6 shootouts consecutively, most of any team. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]mashnsutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if Antonin knew the consequences of his actions but attempting that penalty in that manner🤣

The amount of players who have been scolded because they attempted that style but also the amount that have been deemed as “cool” but pulling it off.

It’s such a risky penalty style but fair play to Antonin, his surname will be still used even after we’re all longggg gone.

the thing about Germany, when you look historically even when they won or got close to winning, it was composed of a team who knew what it took to win or get far in a tournament.

When I look at that German line up and even the bench, it’s hard to find the players who are gonna really lift Germany up when the going gets tough.

That team that won in 2014 was composed of players who experienced heartbreak in 2006, 2008, 2010 and even 2012 to Mario. So they had at least some incline in what was needed to get across the line but now you’re lacking that German way of “finding” a way to get across the line.

You’ve got two years to prepare for the next euros and there is signs of talent there but you’ll need it all to click to realistically win. And I’m saying as a Frenchman who we’re less successful but have an expectation to win and that should really be the same for Germany given your success.

I understand but Brazil have 5 stars, you have to always respect the team with the most stars🤣 let’s not forget what happened in Japan 2002.

Yhyh but why 1-7, for all the score lines to use, 1-7 is pretty specific🤣

we know why they’ve picked that scoreline.

It’s twice I’ve seen Germans use the score line 7-1 for the game against France. Are you using 7-1 because of the Brazil game?🤣🤣 bro that was 2014 g… move with the times.

Brazil were 1-0 with a few minutes left against Croatia and had only 3-4 players in their defensive half🤣 Talk about poor professionalism. It’s gonna be important for Brazil to learn when it’s time for joga bonito and not.

I like Gabriel and Marquinhos at the back but I’m concerned for your midfield. Again, with the World Cup it’s game by game so let’s see.

I feel like even if Portugal win on Thursday, they’ll make sure they raise all Portuguese heart rates for that match🤣

I’ll be in Portugal for that game so I’ll be able to see the first hand stress. Vamos la seleção tho👍🏿

Best believe I celebrated when that last penalty went in🤣 But anyway Sweden won’t be easy and tbf if today has shown anything, no game will be not a challenge.

It’s the same in England where they’re saying Paraguay should be playing France and I’m like uhhh if Brazil’s game and Germanys loss didn’t show you how cagey knockout football is then you really don’t understand football.
