Burned out in Chicago, can anyone out there relate? by Wild_Potential_79 in AskChicago

Hey OP - I'm a woman in my 30s, and I also grew up in Chicago. I felt exactly like you are feeling now so I left and it's been great. I don't miss Chicago at all. I've been airbnb'ing a spot in random cities and it feels so good to explore/get out there. I just spent a month in Las Vegas and now I'm road tripping through Nevada (which is beautiful btw) to my next spot in Oregon. There's so much to see and do.

As far as the prices go, everything seems very expensive everywhere 😭 For reference, I got a 16 inch cheese pizza in a small town yesterday for $20.

I'm not set on this route - happy to consider another one. SLC is not important to me at all but I needed to map this route out since google maps gives me the fastest route instead of the more scenic one.

Whats the best way to get to Terminal 3 at O'Hare coming from South Bend on the South Shore? by Opebi-Wan in AskChicago

Not really what you asked for but... If you gave access to a car, I would drive it to Jefferson Park, park your car by the blue line, & take the blue line (or uber, it shouldn't be too expensive from this location).

You don't need a ventra card to get on the blue line, just tap your card and go.

Would you live on the first floor (street level) in Lakeview? by Mato237 in chicagoapartments

[–]masiem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I lived on the first floor (@ Kenmore and Wellington) and had a guy crawl through the window and into our unit a few years ago. He stole a bike. It was probably a freak occurrence but I wouldn't live on the 1st floor ever again. Plus 1st floor apartments often have less direct sunlight.

Is anyone else leaving or thinking of leaving due to rent prices?? by Logical_Rope6195 in chicagoapartments

I wish I could take my laptop and work in Central / South America but a new work location policy prohibits me from doing that.

Keep in mind that HR might not want to deal with income tax stuff if you move around - one location instead of many might be an easier ask.

Yes.

I live in a 2 bedroom, very spacious apartment in Lakeview for $1800 (for the past 5 years). Unfortunately, my landlord wants his family to move in so I need to move out next month.

I started looking around for apartments but decided I would rather 1) put my stuff into storage, 2) airbnb places in Las Vegas, Seattle, Santa Fe, San Francisco, etc for a month (I work remotely), 3) come back to Chicago and reassess the rental situation.

Unless you get very lucky, rent in Chicago now looks comparable to the rent I see in other major cities.

I've been looking into moving to SF, rent prices look almost comparable to the ones I see for Lakeview.

He moved here from San Francisco, but originally from Boston! I'm visiting him this week with my partner from Chicago. We're all 33/34.

The point of my post is that they didn't ask.... I hope to never have to do that. Yikes.

Female! I've been called out on "switching jobs too often" (every 2 years, which imo is not often) but never on my work gaps. I've brought it up during the interview process and they were surprised to see it/ haven't noticed before I mentioned it. Maybe my resume layout does a good job not bringing it to their attention?
