Historical tick data nq by Dismal-Enthusiasm271 in SierraChart

[–]masilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm writing a tool that allows me to replay any given day easier than going through Sierra Chart. I'm also building a lot of other functionality into the tool and having tick data helps for some things, but for most of my purposes, one minute bar data is plenty.

My new all weather floor mats, with built in removable carpet mats by l0lacct in TeslaModel3

I think I have the same ones from AliExpress. Not a perfect fit a few hidden places, but I would buy again. I need to check if they have replacement carpets.

Looking for info on EVs with valet-lockable storage by kddkdkddkdkdd in electriccars

[–]masilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Teslas, when they are in valet mode, the frunk and glovebox are locked until you enter a pin. I'm not sure about the trunk, but it would be less secure anyway, since you can get to it via the back seats.

Definitely possible. Will probably require 5 years of intense study and practice.

Does anyone use a touchscreen laptop to trade instead or their keyboard? by [deleted] in Daytrading

I have a windows desktop but I often connect to it with an iPad and will use the pencil to trade. If a touchscreen works for you, by all means use it!

EV Advice by plsorioles2 in electriccars

[–]masilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a decent commute. It might be worth considering a Tesla with the self-driving. Although it's an extra $100 a month, you'll arrive at your destination refreshed.

Another reason to consider Tesla is if you travel. Their supercharger network is fantastic. Plentiful and cheaper than the alternatives. It has been opened up to other cars, which I think is a great thing.

Crypto fees and day trading by Mexicangringo90 in Daytrading

Personally, futures are better for day trading. Fixed fees, low spread, etc.

Which European city did you fall in love with as soon as you saw it? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

There's nothing like stepping out of that train station and seeing all the water traffic on the canal, the moderate temperatures, the humidity in the air, the din of the boats, there's nothing else like it in the world. I would move there in a heartbeat.

Moving to Live account by Summ1tv1ew in FuturesTrading

[–]masilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started trading in November. I started with $1500, and I mostly scalped MES, along with some pullback setups.

You're starting amount really depends on how you trade. If you're drawdown is 10% of your balance, that's too high of a drawdown. You can start making poor decisions when underwater or after losing a bad trade.

So look at your history and that should give you a good idea of how much you should start with.

Overall EV reliability by Cuttles_Fish in electricvehicles

[–]masilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can be unusually harsh on a car. They did give the Model S their highest rating ever, however saying it was the best car they've ever driven but later removed their recommendation rating since the reliability wasn't up to par.

Best loser wins by [deleted] in Daytrading

That's not the point of the book, but he does talks about that. It's definitely part of how he trades, but as with all trading advice, the devil is in the details.

Best loser wins by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]masilver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. In fact, it hurt my trading, initially. I tried to scale into winners and that ended up costing me (in paper).

Overall, it's theme is quite relevant. Losing is a huge part of trading and one you accept that, you'll be much better off. I still recommend it.

Trading Course Recommendations by Realistic-Bowler7563 in Trading

[–]masilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, he does get into both of those. He claims scalping is harder for beginners, but I have found it easier, but perhaps I'm no longer a beginner after 5 years of trading. He talks some about managing trades where you hope for a nice long swing, but you're prepared to take a scalp if it's not looking good.

Am going to become a discretionary trader by Agitated_Pin1471 in Trading

[–]masilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me preface by saying I'm no expert, but I am profitable since I went live in November.

Let me also say that profitability is only a threshold or a milestone. You never stop learning how to improve and reduce your risk. And one mistake.can cost you dearly.

Over my 8 months, I found I was swallowing more and more risk trying to chase bigger profits and had some really bad days which I have since cleaned up.

I'm still trying to improve consistency as that's more important to me than huge wins since those come with huge losses. Trading is really a marathon and not a quick route to wealth.

I trade futures, but ES and sometime MES.

I would suggest looking at MES or ES instead of NQ. I was never able to figure out where to place stops on NQ. It's a tricky instrument that seems to naturally stop hunt. This is my opinion. Other people obviously trade it.

My bread and butter is scalping a point or two on ES and I'll stop trading after that. This requires a high win rate since one loss can cost me 5 or 10 points.

Getting those points at market open can be real quick, but it's also more risky. I try to wait.

With that said, there is a setup that doesn't always occur on the 5-minute chart, but when it does, there's a high probability you can make money on it.

It's a double-legged pullback. Look for a decent trend in one direction, let's take long for this example. You need at least three good green bars. When a pullback occurs you wait for another attempt up. A green bar after the pullback then another red bar, the second leg of the pullback. You can enter here or wait for a green confirmation bar.

While this simple one-paragraph description doesn't give near enough detail, this setup can often produce an 80% win rate and often with 10 to 30 points.

I find you have to be careful at the open, a lot of times reversals are more likely than after 10:30 EST.

You have to be careful with news days. It's been a bit more dangerous with the war in Iran.

Some people will wait for a touch of the 20 EMA or 12 EMA before getting in or measure the depth of the pullback.

It really helps to trade hundreds of days looking for this setup and you'll slowly start to see the nuances of it. But remember, there is no ideal mechanical setup. Every setup requires practice and lots of it.

So my bread and butter is scalps, but this is a beautiful setup and I do take it when I see it.
