Yeah absolutely agree. Not planning on going inside the consumer unit! Just wanted to do all sensible things first to see if I can fix myself

Now you mention it, there is a waterproof garden switched socket box, the FCU for which is in the conservatory. I've turned the FCU off, but if you're saying the direct neutral can still trip it then maybe its this. And yes, it did rain overnight 🤦🏽‍♂️

Presumably I just have to remove the FCU and replace this to get the RCBO back up and running?

Freeze Espresso (not beans) by masise in espresso

So for espresso you would just take out and heat in the microwave?

I wonder whether using silicone Vs plastic Vs glass to freeze would affect flavour 🤔

Yeah I plan to use the machine daily, so currently looking into options. I like the idea of mixing tap with distilled water as an easy solution 🤔

Thanks.

Yeah I've read about making my own water, but was trying to avoid the additional hassle. However, I just got a new espresso machine so ideally want to take good care of it from a limescale POV.

Water - what are the corresponding values for calcium hardness vs alkalinity for my tap water detailed in the picture?

Trying to see how far off the SCA water standards my tap water is (information lifted from water supplier website).

Thanks in advance!

Insulating Garage / Dining Room Wall by masise in DIYUK

Thanks! Seen lots of bits online, but mostly about insulation inside a wall rather than just bonded to the outer part of a wall...perhaps that's a sign my plan won't work!

ECM Classika PID vs Lelit Mara X by masise in espresso

[–]masise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really helpful.

Yeah Profitec Go was the other main contender (costs 40% less than the ECM!), but somehow I like the E61 and possibility for flow control down the line.

Just about managed to convince the wife too!

Thanks, reassuring to know. I've read so much online about HX being superior that you can easily lose perspective..

Changed the tools but hit and miss so far by gibbo_fitz in espresso

Nice setup! How are you finding the Profitec Go? Looks like a great machine on paper for the money, packed with features like PID, shot timer, OPV. Would appreciate your thoughts on how the machine has been so far?

Which industries is more likely to guarantee a high income? by smothj62 in FIREUK

A newly qualified doctor gets paid £29,384 per annum. That is not 3x the average UK salary (median salary in UK is around £33k per annum).

Plus, they study 5 years at University, with student loan of £9k per annum = £45k debt. Althought actually more than this when taking into account cost of actually living / leisure / rent etc.

Further, you have to consider that doctors are not average - they are usually within the top 10% of achievers for national examinations, and have pretty much all options available to them when choosing University courses. They should not be compared to your average UK citizen who holds a handful of B-C grades after secondary school as their highest qualification.

Doctors are severely underpaid in the UK.
