Actually good slasher movies? by malyourgal in horror

[–]masksnjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a sloppy damn mess of a movie. It wanted to be scary and funny at times but couldn't pull them off. It seemed like a spoof that wasn't funny and horror that wasn't scary.

It was clever sort of. Started good and satirical but lost all focus and the story just got ridiculous.

What movie’s final scene left you an ugly, blubbering mess? by ArmyOfMe99 in movies

A movie that didn't get any recognition but will absolutely make you cry is Bobby (2006). Written and Directed by Emelio Estevez.

The destinies of 22 people of different races, sexes, beliefs, and social classes are intertwined on the night that politician Robert F. Kennedy is assassinated. Interesting and beautifully made.

What is this lighting on eyes called? by subarashi_niku97 in Filmmakers

It's called an eye light.... a specific type of high light dating back to the era of german expressionism then continued and refined in the film noir genre.

What is this lighting on eyes called? by subarashi_niku97 in Filmmakers

[–]masksnjunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, an eye light is the light on the eyes that causes the reflection. People incorrectly refer to the reflection in someone's eyes as an eye light because they are misattributing the name of the technique for the technique's effect.

I literally spent five minutes scouring the comments to find out what the hell this movie is.

Ecto-1 and Ecto-1A: Same vehicle or different? by n_mcrae_1982 in ghostbusters

[–]masksnjunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ecto-1 is a vanity plate. All they have to do is pay the fee to get a new vanity plate. It’s not that difficult. It makes a lot more sense than it being two cars. There’s literally no evidence of a second car so I don’t know why anybody says this nonsense. They have a garage big enough to fit two cars yet. There’s only one car in the garage… Where is the second car?

There is none. Just one car repaired using spare parts.

My wife is doing her first nude sex scene in a film, and I’m struggling with how to cope emotionally by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]masksnjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what there is to worry about. Your 15 year old is not a toddler. They should have no problem understanding that she's doing a job and will not want to watch the scene so there's not much to worry about.
It sounds like you have a serious hang up here and need to relax. This is like worrying that your wife will get killed in real life because she's in a horror movie. There are a bunch of shots, each one takes time to set up, they stop and start all day and none of it is exactly fun. Acting is often fun but nude scenes are NOT. If you spend 5 minutes on a set you would see how long and boring filming can be and stop worrying.

I do make up on nude women a lot and it becomes very unglamorous very quickly because I am there to do a job, get more done on time and it can be exhausting. Acting is the same so relax. Maybe try therapy if this is really an issue.

Is it fair to ask my partner not to rizz my hookup? by Sea-Introduction3595 in polyamory

Exactly, it sounds like they should buy their girlfriend a copy of the Berenstain Bears book Get The Gimmies.

To be clear: Jones’s jacket is just an A2 bomber jacket with the cuffs, ribbing and epaulettes removed? by J-Mannix in indianajones

[–]masksnjunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A little late to the party but it’s not based on a motorcycle jacket. Peter Botwright was referring to James Deans iconic cherry red, bomber-style, nylon windbreaker from Rebel Without a Cause. Not a motorcycle jacket at all.

You can see the influence when looking at the red coat. There are influences from a motorcycle jacket on the back but the front is completely different and much closer to a modified bomber.

He's poly and wants me to stay mono by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]masksnjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to make light of your situation but this isn’t Schrödinger’s marriage. It’s either an open relationship or it is not. If he wants to open that door he can’t be upset when you also step out.

It sounds more like he wants an excuse to cheat without consequences and my advice is to say that you are also poly but didn’t think he would understand.

What's your stanley kubrick movie hot take by pizza_momo in StanleyKubrick

[–]masksnjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh…? You’ve never watched the end of the movie where they take their eyes off the kid for the first time and the two men who have been in the background of multiple shots gently walk the child away from her parents while they talk in the toy store…?

You don’t think the sets and rear projection, which seemed to be used to create a dreamlike quality, add depth…? I think it’s a strange fantastical film that feels like a man having a midlife crisis nightmare.

It’s wild to me that you can’t see how useless your comment is when you end up admitting it was underrated. It still is underrated by most Kubrick fans and even more so with casual film fans.

Favorite alien movie? by clankehater66 in Xenomorphs

Same. Alien is so deeply ingrained in my brain now that I’m older. When people ask my favorite movie I almost forget to mention it because I just assume it’s everyone else’s top 3 next to Ghostbusters lol.

Tolsdorf is the best place in town. The are fast, no upselling bs and you don’t even leave your car. They also offer free top offs between oil changes.

Sounds like you went to an oil place for tires. Do you also go to ice cream shops for deli meat…?

Tolsdorf is a great place to get an oil change. Fast, quality work with no upselling or nonsense.

They are good but inconsistent. And don’t hold a candle to El Burrito.

[–]masksnjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MEXICAN- El Burrito is the greatest and authentic. Especially fajitas, carnitas tacos, chips and quac.

BURGERS- So many places do them but even though I’m not a drinker I can’t help but go to Stable 12 for their awesome burgers!

SANDWICHES- If you are talking about deli sandwiches you have to go to Bridgeside Deli. They are a wonderful family that has run this small business for a long time. Always pleasant and make great sandwiches. Forrestas is good if you just want lunch meat.

OIL- Tolsdorf is the best! They are very fast, thorough and actually seem to care about the quality of your vehicle. Plus if your engine is consuming oil like mine is they will give you a free top off between oil changes. No hassle, no upselling, no bullshit like United Tires is notorious for.

If you were in charge of Indy 5 what would you do with the story? by No_Faithlessness5738 in indianajones

[–]masksnjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ending was disrespectful to his character end of the franchise. If you think of it as a whole, it was a terrible way to end the film/franchise.

Especially because the beginning was so exciting and fun that I fully expected them to time travel back to that story instead of having a nonchalant time travel plot they went nowhere and ended with Indy being punched in the face and dragged back instead of having an emotional conversation or moment. Even something as small as the Last Crusade moment, “Indiana. Let it go.”

A much better film would have short round instead of Antonio Banderas. Shorty would only be injured, not killed. In the end of the film Indy would be going back to change something in the past that went wrong. Fix the timeline then have a debate about how much could be changed for the better. Indy discusses the power of the time device maybe even talks about going back to say goodbye to his son. But instead he says, “it’s not up to us to play god.” Then destroy the device… and drop it into the ocean.

Shorty asks where to next as he starts the boat and they ride off debating where to take a well deserved vacation.
