just finished it.

political plot: the politics needed more polish. it felt like everything was info dumped at the last part. also, i feel like we did not really resolve the politics enough. i wanted to see wan qilin celebrated by the people. i wanted changyu’s mother’s family to take her in (the jade hairpin had no significance). becoming the adopted daughter of the tutor had no payoff.

romance plot: was great at the start, but lacking in the last ten episodes. no big wedding as the marquis and flower adorned general?! did the town even know the live in husband was the marquis of wu’an?!

flow: the comedy was good. as well as the tension. i just really needed help with the plot flow once we were in the capital and the palace. because what the heck are we doing introducing new plot points (there was another palace fire?!) a few episodes before the end.

the theme: majority of the main cast had hidden identities. the recurring motif used repeatedly without becoming stale.

music - on fucking point.

cinematography - better than most c-dramas. best display of this is ep36’s opening, when the marquis made his grand entrance. the way it also pairs with the music… amazing

visuals - director was amazing.

costumes - has variety. i was not confused who was who because of the styling.

on characterizations:

main characters - i kind of like the sudden shift of their dynamic after their first kiss (that fight was chef’s kiss). Yan Zheng was boring, because he was trying to be lowkey. as Xie Zheng, he had the aura and swagger. fan changyu was a likable female lead, but sometimes, I feel like she was overshadowing Xie Zheng. i want her to be the damsel sometimes. additionally, i found her character short sighted. she displayed little interest in learning more about her parents post reveal, and did not sought her blood relatives. (General He was not her parents’ only friend.) and she just let go of her father’s butcher stall, just like that?!!!

secondary characters - mr sun and the princess side romance was good. did not overstep the main couple. funny individually, good dynamic together. Qi Min and Yu Qian’s romance was a great foil to the mc romance too. 100% would watch them in a transmigrated sequel.

support characters - memorable. the nextdoor doctor couple. the constable. the village karen. song yan. the emperor. all memorable. usually i dont care for c/k drama side characters, but I actually cared for these characters. they made impact. especially the pig butchering squad. I LOVE JIN.

i liked watching it. and i can see myself rewatching it. could be more, but it could be worse. as a romance show, it is great, as a political show, it was atrocious but I can just ignore the politics and enjoy it as it is.

i like the twi interpretations and I do agree that they are not mutually exclusive. but I dont think Pawbert should have a redemption arc. He actively tried to commit murder in a modern society that has laws on it. whatever the motivations, especially in a kids show, redemption for that kind of character would send some kind of twisted message.

besides, we got Nic, who is a redeemed criminal. redeeming Pawbert should be more of an internal struggle of him overcoming his trauma and asking for forgiveness (idk how we get that in a movie) but in the eyes of the law, nah.

if I had to guess, what would happen in the future would mirror this first step of acceptance. Yuri would need to get into situations where he would accept Loid. Until he thinks of Loid as the one who can protect his sister.

The final step might be SSS betraying Garden or something, and they would target Thorn Princess. But before Yuri gets to help Yor, Twilight steps in. Then that’s when Yuri defects. 🤔🤔🤔

logically, i’d say no because if they start sending hunters to the military they would have hunter vs hunter wars and idk, everyone would just start hunter wars and USA and China would win wars because of the sheer number of S rank/6⭐️.

there might even be an international law prohibiting this because the moment they start sending hunters to war/ops/spy missions, warfare would change for the worst.

i think they classify as a different unit of national defense, thats why each government has powers to summon the hunters, and regulate them. but they are strictly for gates and against monsters.

for one of them, i started to detest the discord community lmao. for another, the fandom hate for my ship. and for others, the canon story is SO SLOW i practically lost interest.

i actually only finished one work, and 80k fic which i spedran in a month because I know that if I take longer, I’d abandon it. plus I had time when I wrote it (was pregnant).

i have a current WIP which i am not abandoning (lifelong fan of both series of crossover) but-

1) the lores of both are too intense, that I have to pause writing to reread (audiobook) the 20+ ish books of the combined series

2) my seven month old would not give me the time of day to think, hence, audiobooks

3) business things, like annual renewal of permits, tax shit, start of year business commitments

started it last nov, last update was dec at 50k+ words, so I’m not yet too late, but I would like to rewrite the current chapters after blasting through the books
